Last year I did some traveling for several blogger events. Traveling is new to me. Even though I’ve done it a few times I’m still a bit of a “newbie”.
When I travel I like to have my laptop with me. I take a lot of pictures and I like to upload them right away, just in case something happens to my camera. If I have the time I also like to check my e-mail, update my blog and keep my friends and family up to date on my travels via Facebook.
I would like to bring my iPad with me. I find the iPad is a lot easier to use when I’m in a hotel room. I don’t like to sit at the desks you usually find in a hotel room. I find them uncomfortable. I also need to use a mouse and it’s inconvenient to have to bring a mouse pad with me. The touch screen iPad is much easier for me to use in a hotel room.
I am FAR from a “techie” kind of person. I leave all that up to my husband. He’s the computer tech in the family.
I was sent a Belkin Wireless Dual Band Travel Router to review. Unfortunatly I haven’t had the opportunity to try it at a hotel room yet. I haven’t gone on any blogger trips. I was able to use it around my home to try it out.
The Belkin Wireless Dual Band Travel Router is small and compact in size. I could easily tuck this into my suitcase or travel bag and not have it take up valuable space or add weight to my bag. It even comes in a handy travel kit so you can keep all the components together, plus it protects it against being knocked around in your bag. The kit includes the travel router, power supply with USB cable, user chargeable power plugs, Ethernet cable, installation guide and of course the travel case.
I had my husband set it up for me. It seemed easy enough to do. I have the instructions in the travel case to refresh my memory when I finally get to try it out in a hotel. It took my husband just a couple of minutes to set up.
When you check into your hotel room (or other location like a meeting room), simply connect the Belkin Dual Band Travel Router to the hotel’s Internet connection port, do some simple configuration, and ta-da – you are able to use your laptop, iPad or other wireless device from anywhere in the room.
This set up would be ideal if you are at a conference where multiple people need Internet access. Or if you are in a hotel room with your family and they each want to do something that requires a wireless signal.
My husband hooked it up in our home to try out. The kids were able to use their iPod Touch devices and I was able to use my iPad with no problem. I played around with NetFlix and it streamed the movies just fine. My kids had no problems with their iPod Touches as far as I know. They text and use Face Time and Oovoo a lot and it didn’t seem to effect those sites either.
I have read other reviews on this travel router and people mentioned a dropped signal or slow streaming. I didn’t notice any of those problems. It worked just fine for me. Maybe those people were using it in a larger area or had too many devices using it at one time?
Even though this is a travel router I think you use this just fine at home or even at college.
I’m looking forward to trying this out at a hotel. When I have a chance to I will update this post and let you know how well it worked.
