This past Friday (October 17th) my husband and I celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary. ♥
Our day didn’t start off so good (2+ hours in the doctor’s office – hubby diagnosed with TMJ), but it sure ended with a bang.
It’s not often that my husband and I get to go out for a fancy meal. Usually our kids are with us and we end up at the local pizza place or diner. For our anniversary my husband and I had a really special treat – an amazing dinner at the new Bonefish Grill restaurant that opened up nearby.
Recently The Shops a Nanuet, a high-end “outdoor” mall opened up by us. By “outdoor” I mean the stores are all together, like in a mall, but the entrances are all from the outside. You can’t go from store to store on the inside.
A few stores there I would shop at such as LUSH and Bath & Body Works. Other stores are way outside our budget (Michael Kors, L’Occitane…).
There are going to be a few restaurants opening there over the next few months. The one restaurant I was most excited to try out was Bonefish Grill. I ♥ seafood and was excited to give it a try.
On October 12, 2013 they had a charity event which took place at the restaurant benefitting the American Cancer Society of Rockland County (NY). They raised an impressive $6,840 which will go to support the American Cancer Society as they work to save lives threated by cancer in every community. Since we have had family and friends die from cancer it’s nice to patronize an establishment that supports such a charity.
Since we have never been to the restaurant before we were not sure how to dress. I was a bit dressed up where as my hubby was dressed down. Based on the other patrons in the restuaurnt you can go either way.
We were greeted with a warm smile by the hostess. One of the “anglers” (employee) as they are called whisked away to our table.
The ambiance we nice. It was dark with some nice, romantic “mood” lighting – perfect for an anniversary celebration.
A little birdie had told the restaurant that it was our anniversary. Several anglers came over to wish us a Happy Anniversary which was really special. Our own kids didn’t even wish us a Happy Anniversary. Sigh…
We were given both a regular menu and an anniversary menu. My hubby is not into seafood but he did find a steak with garlic mashed potatoes that stood out to him. As for me, I took the longest to make my decision. If you love seafood this is the restaurant for you. The menu was filled with items I would love to try. I am not exaggeration when I say I was bouncing around between 7 or 8 possibilities. I couldn’t decide. I wanted to try them all!
Some of the items I was considering include the Maryland Crab Cake Dinner, Crab Crusted Orange Roughy and even something as simple as Fish & Chips.
I decided on the Wood Grilled Swordfish over Pumpkin Ravioli topped with Feta cheese, crispy sage and shallot brown butter.
Before our meals came out we were served fresh bread with Olive oil and herbs for dunking (mmm… I love that!) and we opted for house salads instead of an appetizer (I was tempted to get the Ahi Tuna Sashimi which I heard was very good). I was also tempted to get the Bang Bang Shrimp (I saw it – it looked good!) but I didn’t want to fill up too much because I wanted to have dessert.
Even something as simple as a salad was impressive.
There was something white, firm and round in the salad. My husband and I (burgers & fries kind of people) had no clue what it was. I tried it and thought maybe it was some kind of potato (it was firm and a little sweet). My husband tried it and was clueless and made no guess. There were also seeds on the salad. I thought they were pumpkin seeds but they were a bit small, so I thought maybe they were sunflower seeds.
One of the restaurant partners (I’m sorry I can’t remember his name – I should have written it down) introduced himself to us and wished us a Happy Anniversary. I asked him what the white things were on the salad. He told us they were Hearts of Palm, which is the inside/core of certain palm trees. They are harvested and look like tubes, but then they are cut into slices. He went on to tell us all about this very interesting vegetable (?). He was very knowledgeable about it.
The seeds were Pepitas, which is like a pumpkin seed. They are used in Mexican cuisine.
I must say I was very impressed that he knew all about the food that was being served to his guests, not just what was on the menu. He also knew what was on the menu in great detail and made some recommendations. You can tell he’s probably taken the time to actually eat all the foods they sell in the restaurant because he was able to describe tastes and textures.
Our meals came out in a timely manner. Mine looked so good that I didn’t know where to start first.
The swordfish was cooked to perfection. It was soft and moist and melted in my mouth. I love Feta cheese and would never think to use it on top of fish (usually I top eggs with it). The savory wood grilled swordfish combined with the slightly salty Feta cheese was a combination made in paradise. “Yummy” fails to describe just how good it was.
My meal (and my husband’s) also came with a side of Ratatouille.
The star of the meal had to be the pumpkin ravioli. OH MY GOODNESS! Mere words cannot describe just how extraordinary the pumpkin ravioli. Let me put it to you this way – two days later I was STILL raving about it to my family at a mini-reunion this past Sunday. I’ve been raving about it so much that my husband now rolls his eyes at me when he hears me even mention the word “pumpkin”. LOL!
The Bonefish Grill pumpkin ravioli is the type of food that you eat slowly and take small bites because you want to be able to savor and appreciate each and every morsel. It was truly amazing. And the shallot brown butter was the perfect compliment to the ravioli.
The pumpkin ravioli is also offered as a side dish if you want to try it (and I highly recommend it). Sadly it’s only around for a short time. The pumpkin ravioli is a seasonal treat.
I’m not exaggerating when I say if they had a take out menu I would in all honesty buy a half a dozen (or more!) servings and freeze them just so I can enjoy the pumpkin ravioli again and again. Yeah… I’m that much in love with it. It was that good.
After our incredibly delicious meals we toyed with the idea of dessert. Our stomachs were getting full and we didn’t want to over due it. That is until the restaurant partner (again, I wish I remembered his name!) told us about the desserts available. I was sold on the coconut dessert, but my hubby doesn’t like coconut. So we agreed to share a chocolate brownie topped with macadamia nuts, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauced and raspberry sauce.
This was ONE serving size. Two or three people could eat this. It was a lot, but oh-s0-good!
Prior to our dessert coming out we were treated to glasses of champagne (with straweberries) for our anniversary. How wonderful is that. We were totally shocked. It was unexpected and very much appreciated.
Overall I am extremely impressed with Bonefish Grill, located at The Shops at Nanuet in Nanuet, NY. There are Bonefish Grill restaurants across the country.
The service was amazing. The people were friendly and knowledgable and the food was out of this world.

What a beautiful wedding picture. I’ve never heard of this restaurant, it sounds wonderful. We have all these stores now at the local mall, too, that I keep wondering how they stay in business, how many people are buying these very expensive items (not me!).

Isn’t the new shops great!? I spent a day shopping there with the females of my family! My aunt that lives in Nanuet kept on proclaiming that she doesn’t feel like she is in Nanuet anymore LOL.
My husband and I have always wanted to try Bonefish Grill but haven’t gotten around to it yet. But with your glowing review I think we are gonna have to make our way down there and have a meal.

Wow, it all looks amazing. There is one near us in Memphis and I will have to keep it in mind next time we are looking for someplace to eat. We need a date night soon so maybe I can make it happen.
The dessert looks amazing. And the food. Oh my, I would skip lunch before I went.
