I remember an incident when my daughter was in 4th grade (she’ll be a senior in the fall). She was doing a project and needed a few images. She went to do a search and on the first page of the images were porn photos – and it wasn’t even for a search term you would expect that from. I was mortified!
I know a lot of schools use computers in the classroom. I’ve always wondered how they filter out obscene images or potentially harmful things.
In addition I don’t like how many sites you go to are overflowing with flashy advertisements. The purpose of working on the computer at school is to learn – not have flashy ads telling you to “buy it now” or “try this”.
As a parent I totally show support for #adfreesearch.
Thankfully there is something that can be done about it. Bing in the Classroom helps school age children utilize technology to help inspire them and educate them without ads and it can protect them from harmful sites by filtering out adult content.
In addition, Bing in the Classroom provides teachers with literacy lesson plans. The plans help to promote digital literacy and critical thinking in short, fun activities for children.
