I wrote this post while participating in a blog tour conducted by Clever Girls Collective on behalf of Children’s Claritin®. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program.
Do your children suffer from seasonal allergies? Mine sure do. Especially in the Spring with the tree pollen. That is the worst!
When my children were younger they would be fine all day long, for the most part. They would sniffle and sneeze from time to time but it was not that bad. At night time however, wow! It was like a whole new world. My kids would literally “bark” all night long (coughing). They sounded like a pair of seals or sea lions. ALL NIGHT LONG! In the morning, after they were up for a while, the coughing went away and they were fine again until the night time. For the life of me I can’t figure out why. The only conclusion I came up with is that perhaps the mucus would pool up in their throats at night because they were lying down.
It didn’t help matters any that the bedroom had a huge tree directly in front of the window. It was so close you could reach out and grab one the branches from the window. Not that I am keen on the idea of chopping down trees for no good reason, but our condo board took the tree down one day, totally out of the blue. They said it was because it was too close to a power line. If you saw the location of the tree you’d like that was a bunch of bologna. The tree was no where near a power line of any kind. I am angry they killed a tree like that, but at the same time it did help my kids a little bit with the three gone.
I think we’ve tried every allergy medication known to man. From over the counter to prescription. We’ve tried them all. A few work, a few don’t. We found that we had to have a few different medications on hand because some worked better at night and others during the day. Plus some would work better for one child and not the other. My home resembled a pharmacy. LOL!
Thankfully as my children got older their allergies didn’t seem as bad. They stopped “barking” at night, which is a huge relief for me. There is nothing worst then hearing those awful sounds coming from your children knowing you can’t do much about it. My kids still get stuffy and sneeze a lot with the Spring allergies, but we are able to handle them with over the counter medications like Claritin.
Check out this slide show that Claritin has made available that tells you all about allergies, how to manage them, learn if it’s an allergy or a cold and some really fun activities you can do with your children (I love the name garden!).
Does your child suffern from Spring, or other seasonal allergies? How do you manage them? I’m always happy to hear from my readers, especially when they share great tips and advice.

Allergies are the worst, especially when it’s your babies that are suffering.

The same thing happens with us with the night time coughing. My 2 girls and I all start hacking at night time. The last couple weeks have been the worst. Seems to be fading though. We have used Claritin in the past, it is our go to allergy medicine, though I try not to take anything. Keeping the windows shut keeps the allergens out of the house too.
