Available now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download is the drama The Mountain Between Us staring Kate Winslet and Idris Elba.
I don’t know where you live, but here in the Northeast it gets pretty cold during the long, winter months. My family and I are not “snow people.” We don’t enjoy skiing, ice skating or anything else that keeps us outside for too long. My husband especially dislikes winter. In fact, he would do anything to move to Florida. He even counts down how many days until spring. I can ask him at any time during winter “how many days until spring” and he can tell me immediately.
I can’t imagine being trapped in the snow. I often think back to that movie I saw many years ago, Alive, where a plane full of rugby players and their family crashed into the Andes Mountains. Many of them survived, but in order to do so they had to resort to cannibalism. I cannot image going through that.
That is the premise of the film The Mountain Between Us, which is currently available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download.
My husband just had surgery, and I am dealing with a lot of pain in my right leg. Since we can’t really go out, having a “date night” at home worked best for us. For our date night movie we watched The Mountain Between Us as we sipped on hot cocoa (with extra marshmallows of course), cookies and of course snuggled under some blankets.
The Mountain Between Us stars Kate Winslet as Alex Martin, a photo journalist who travels around the world. While at the airport after one of her photo assignments she learns that the plane she was scheduled to take had been cancelled. Alex wouldn’t settle on another flight. She needed to get home ASAP because her wedding was the next day.
While at the airport, Alex overhears another man having the same issue. His name is Dr. Ben Bass. He too had his flight cancelled and needed to get to another location for a surgery he needed to perform on a child.
Alex comes up with a great idea – hire a private plane. Ben reluctantly agrees.
The duo are able to hire a private plane piloted by Walter (played by Beau Bridges). He even takes along his dog for the ride.
While flying high over the mountains Walter suffers a stroke and plane crash lands on a mountain top. Walter is killed instantly and Alex sustains serious injuries. The only two to survive relatively unharmed are Ben and the dog.
Ben buries Walter and tends to Alex’s injuries. They are not fatal, but her leg is broken making it difficult for her to walk.
Ben tries to find any evidence of nearby civilization to no avail.
Tensions start to run high as Ben blames Alex for their most certain doom. That is when Alex takes it upon herself to descend down the mountain – broken leg and all – in effort to find help. Ben eventually joins her.
Between her injuries, below freezing temperatures, very little food and other hurdles, the idea of them ever finding help is quickly disappearing.
Will the pair ever find help? Will they survive? To find out you need to pick up a copy of The Mountain Between Us. Look for it where ever movies are sold.
Believe it or not, The Mountain Between Us is also a romantic film, but I won’t go into details about that. I don’t want to give too much of the film away. You’ll just have to see it for yourself.
My husband enjoyed the film, but he did call it a “chick flick.” I totally disagree with him. There are plenty of elements in this film that men can appreciate. My husband is just used to watching either horror films or movies where men are machismo. I think a man trying to survive in the frozen wilderness along with a severely injured woman is “manly.” LOL!
Over all I thought it was a really good film, and an ideal “date night” movie. It has action, suspense, drama and of course, romance. It has a little bit of everything to appeal to everyone.

My husband and I watched this movie last weekend and really liked it. I would definitely recommend it to others. It is one of the better movies I have seen lately.
