I am a fan of horror movies and what a better time to watch horror movies then Halloween season.
I love movies that make you jump out of your seat and make you check under you bed and in the closet before going to bed at night.
When I was a young girl I was afraid to look out the window at night because I was afraid of seeing a vampire floating outside the window, compliments of the movie Salem’s Lot. I was also afraid of seeing red eyes staring back at me (Amityville Horror). There is also no way I’d go camping deep in the woods, especially near a campground (Friday the 13th and Prophecy).
I remember as a teen sleeping over a friend’s house on a lake in Pennsylvania. There were a lot of people sleeping over and I ended up having to sleep outside on the porch with a few other people. I did not sleep a wink that night. Visions of Jason Vorhees kept flashing through my head.
The whole idea of Zombies has always intriqued me too. Have you noticed how zombies keep getting faster and faster as years go by? Remember the original Night of the Living Dead? Those zombies walked in slow motion. Even someone like me could easily out run them. As the years have passed zombies have become faster. In the movie Dawn of the Dead (the remake, not the original) the zombies were incredibly fast. If zombies were that fast I’d be the first to go because there is no way I could out run them. 🙂
Zombie movies are pretty cool. My best friend growing up and myself were referred to as the Dawn of the Dead Girls by friend’s of ours who had a heavy metal band. It’s a long story but it has to do with the movie Dawn of the Dead, school vacation, hot dogs and parents who never let me live the event down.
Available today (Tuesday, October 11, 2o11) is the zombie flick called Devil’s Playground. I had the opportunity to review a screener of the movie.
It’s the same old story. A pharmaceutical company creates a virus that accidently gets released into the public causing normal, healthy people to turn into flesh eating zombies. Humm… I think I’ve seen something like this before. Needless to say the story it’s self is not that original.
The movie is based in London. Poor London. It seems like they have had their fair share of zombies. The movie 28 Days comes to mind. I think zombies need to invade places like New Zealand or Canada for a change. Ha Ha. 🙂
In the Devil’s Playground there is only one hope for mankind. The DNA of one woman is the key to turning things around. The only problem is she has to be found and brought back for testing. The pharmaceutical company hires a mercenary who has a violent past. His job is to find her and bring her back alive.
He eventually finds her hiding out in a auto repair shop along with a few others outside of town. Getting her back to London alive is going to be easier said then done. Will he succeed? To find out you’ll need to pick up a copy of the movie Devil’s Playground.
I must say that the zombies in this movie are the fastest zombies out of any zombie movie I have ever seen. They would put the Bionic Man to shame with how fast they run. Not only that they have Ninja-like skills that allow them to run up against walls and do pretty impressive gymnastic moves. Ninja zombies – YIKES!
Check out the movie’s trailer and you’ll see what I mean about the Ninja zombies.
Appearance-wise the zombies in Devil’s Playground are creepy, but sadly they have these hugely over exaggerated veins around their body. I think they shouldn’t have put so much focus on the veins. It didn’t make them any creepier.
As far as the blood and guts go there was plenty in this movie. If we learned anything from the movie Zombieland we know the importance of the “double tap”. That means don’t assume blasting a zombie in the head just once is enought to kill him (if you can really kill a zombie). For safety’s sake you need to “double tap”, meaning shoot the zombie in the head at least twice to ensure that the zombie is not going to get up and chase you again. In the Devil’s Playground they took the concept of the “double tap” to the extreme. Most zombies killed in this movie had their heads bashed in or shot a dozen times or more. Needless to say there is a lot of blood, brains and body parts all over this movie.
Over all the movie was OK. I wish the plot could have been a little more original and less predictable. The zombies were incredibly fast and had Ninja like qualities to them, making them more deadly. I didn’t find the movie scary, but then again I’m a die hard horror movie fan so it takes a lot to scare me. Those that are easily spooked and teens will certainly find themselves screaming out loud a few times in this movie. If zombie movies make you squirm then you will certainly not be disappointed with the Devil’s Playground.
I’d say the movie would get a 3 out of 5 stars.
Look for the Devil’s Playground where movies are sold.
