If you are looking for a last minute holiday gift idea, or if you are looking to expand your holiday movie collection, you should check out the DreamWorks Holiday Collection 2-DVD set. It’s even decorated like a present so you can give it as is or use it as a stocking stuffer.
The DreamWorks Holiday Collection contains four short animated holiday clips from popular DreamWorks characters – Shrek, Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragon and Kung-Fu Panda.
Each holiday episode is around 30 minutes (give or take). You can watch our favorite or pop them all in and watch them back to back.
Shrek the Halls is my favorite holiday episode in this collection. We watch it on TV every year.
Now that Shrek is married and has children, Donkey encourages Shrek to celebrate Christmas. Shrek has never experienced Christmas before so he goes to the book store and buys a book about it.
Shrek tries to give his family the “perfect” Christmas experience outlined in the book, but his friends show up (Donkey, Gingy, the Big Bad Wolf, Pinocchio…) and suddenly his idyllic Christmas experience is tossed upside down.
Merry Madagascar is another fun holiday special in this collection.
King Julien has the island celebrate “Julianuary” (a holiday he created for himself). He tells the zoo gang about the “Red Night Goblin” that shows up every year and drops stuff on their heads. The gang realize that it’s Santa who is dropping coal on King Julien because he’s always on the nauhtly list.
King Julien manages to shoot down Santa, who bumps his head and forgets who he is. The zoo gang decide to take Santa’s sled (along with the penguins) to deliver gifts and then use the sled to get back home to New York City.
As you can image delivering the presents is not an easy task. The gang also has to leave Santa behind on the island with King Julien and they have to get back to him when they are done. Then something happens along the way and they must decide if they should go back to NY and leave Santa on the island forever, or return the sled and get stuck on the island forever.
Gift of the Night Fury – I am not really into How to Train Your Dragon and I’m not familiar with the characters. This episode was enjoyable to watch (not very “Christmassy”). The dragons are pretty cool. I can see why this would appeal to children, especially young boys.
Kung-Fu Panda Holiday – Po is asked to take care of all the responsibilities for the Winter Feast. He knows he should hire the world’s best chefs, but he thinks this is a great opportunity for his father. He tries to hire his father but he refuses because he makes the holiday feast for the townspeople.
Not having anyone to cook, Po decides to try and do it himself. He gets overwhelmed with the responsibilities.
The Winter Feast goes on as planned but Po realizes that he should be with his father for the holiday and takes off to go be with his father and help feed the townspeople. But what will the Master’s think of his decision?
This is a fun holiday “mini-movie” assortment that can be enjoy by both young and old alike.
Look for DreamWorks Holiday Collection where ever DVDs are sold.
Have you seen any of these episodes?

I wasn’t even aware this was out. I’ll have to see if I can get my hands on a copy (even though the holidays are over, I would have it for next year).
