I’m not someone who receives a lot of phone calls. However I do keep my cellphone with me at all times in case my husband or kids need me.
In this day and age I am shocked to see that some people still use their cellphones when they are driving. Here in New York if you are caught on the phone while driving you will get ticketed. I guess that is not enough to detour people from knowingly breaking the law. There are plenty of hands-free options available that will allow you to talk on the phone otherwise simply pull your car over to talk on the phone.
I have a couple of speakers that are Bluetooth enabled that allow me to listen to music in my car via my cell phone. That is great since I only have a cassette player in my car (I drive a 96′ Mazda). Some of these devices also allow me to answer phone calls. The only downside is that the devices I have a large and a bit of an inconvenience to have to lug up and down to my car all the time. Not only that there is no place on my dashboard that I can put them. I normally leave them on my front passanger seat. That doesn’t work when I have my kids in the car because they take turns sitting in the front seat. What I need is something smaller and more convenient.
I was sent a speakerphone from a company called SuperTooth (yes, it’s spelled that way). It’s called the SuperTooth Crystal. The SuperTooth Crytal is a slim, portable speaker that connects with my phone via Bluetooth. It’s small enough to tuck inside my purse.
The SuperTooth Crystal;
- Attaches to car’s sun visor via a durable, magnetic clip
- Allows for instant hands-free calling in any type of vehicle
- Features automatic pairing and multi-point technology connecting up to 2 phones simultaneously
- Streams music directly from all Bluetooth A2DP-enabled phones and announces turn-by-turn navigation from a Bluetooth A2DP-enabled smartphones
- Supports voice recognition dialing for phones equipped with this feature
- Provides 20 hours of hands-free talk time (40 days of stand-by) with each 3 hour charge of its lithium ion battery
- Stay in touch in style, the Crystal is available in brushed metal black
My favorite feature is the visor clip. I don’t even have to take the clip off when it needs charging. I just have to unsnap the Crystal from the magnet. The clip remains in my car.
You can answer the phone with the press of a button, as well as disconnect with the press of a button too.
I have voice dialing on my phone which has worked out perfectly for me. Now when I am stuck in traffic or running late I can call my husband or kids entirely hands free.
Syncing up to your cellphone is a snap. Even someone “technologically challenged” at times like me was easily able to do it.
I don’t use the SuperTooth Crystal for phone calls that often. I mostly use it to stream music from my cellphone. Since I only have a cassette player in my car I am unable to listen to current music (my cassettes are 17+ years old!) my only other option is to be at the mercy of the radio. Now when I want to listen to specific songs I am able to stream downloaded music through the Crystal. The only downside is that the Crystal’s speak is not that big and it doesn’t produce the same quality of music that my other Bluetooth enabled speakers do. It’s fine for running errands around town. If I was going on a long road trip I would bring one of my other speakers. In all fairness the Crystal is more so use for hands free calling than streaming music.
For great speaks to stream music I recommend the Disco 2, also made by SuperTooth. The sound quality is amazing. You can read my review here – Take Your Tunes on the Go with SuperTooth: Disco 2.
The SuperTooth Crystal is a handy device to keep in your car. You never knew when you’ll receive an important phone call and it’s not always easy to pull over on the side of the road. Plus it’s handy when you are using GPS and need turn-by-turn directions (audio).
For more information please visit www.SuperTooth.net. You an purchase the device on the SuperTooth website. It retails for $69.00.

Should like a Super Device. My hubby uses a Bluetooth headset all the time. I can’t stand having anything stuck in my ears. It just bothers me to pieces. The Super Tooth sounds perfect for me.
