Now that Halloween is over, many people are turning their focus on to the upcoming holiday season. I know my family is already thinking about what to get one another for Christmas. Now that both of our kids are employed, it will be interesting to see what they gift my husband and I this year. Honestly, I prefer handmade gifts and gifts from the heart, but I know my kids won’t go that route.
If given the choice I would rather limit gifts this year and use the money we would have spent to buy tickets to see the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular. I would rather do something as a family and make memories instead of something that will sit on my shelf that I’ll need to dust.
We went to see the show at Radio City several years ago when our kids were younger. We all still talk about it to this day – from the place we had dinner, to the show, and of course the Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center and the window displays on 5th Avenue.
When it come to gift giving, the gift of entertainment is always an option. It is for my kids. My daughter loves movies and television shows and each year gives us a list of shows and movies she’d love to have on DVD/Blu-ray.
What I love about gifting entertainment is that you know it can be enjoyed again and again, year after year (or until technology changes again).
I still remember back in the day when you had to wait YEARS for a movie to come out o VHS. When it was available it would cost upwards of $100 for just ONE VHS tape. How crazy is that? I still remember paying $25+ for VHS tapes. Thankfully, these days you can purchase DVDs and Blu-rays for $25 or less.
I’m a big fan of boxed sets too. If you are a fan of a series, it’s so much nicer to have a boxed set that contains all the discs instead of multiple DVD and/or Blu-ray packages.
My daughter is a fan of the show Pretty Little Liars. Each year we’d buy her the latest DVD or Blu-ray release (each season). We gifted that to her for her birthday or Christmas, depending on when they came out. Now we have several DVD and Blu-ray cases, and some how we are missing seasons.
Now you can pick up Pretty Little Liars: The Complete Series, just in time for the holidays.
Pretty Little Liars is Freeforms #1 series in all households. The series is based upon the series of books by Sara Shepard.
Pretty Little Liars won the 2016 People’s Choice Award for Favorite Cable TV Drama; it was nominated for the same award in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2017 winning in 2012, 2015, 2016. The series also won six 2016 Teen Choice Awards, including a win for Choice TV Show – Drama for the series.
The show is about a group of best friends – Aria Montgomery, Emily Fields, Hanna Marin, Spencer Hastings, and Alison DiLaurentis. Alison is the “unofficial” group leader.
After Alison goes missing, the girls receive mysterious “clues” from an unknown person who refers to him/herself as “A”. After Alison’s body is found, the girls realize that “A” is not Alison – it’s someone else – but who?
The series goes on to explore the mystery of “A” as well as other deep, dark secrets that were meant to remain hidden. They put themselves in a lot of danger to figure out who “A” is.
I’ve seen bits and pieces of the series, but I’m not 100% up on what is going on. Our daughter on the other hand LOVES the series and has watched it faithfully since the beginning.
She is going to love having the complete series. That way she has the missing seasons and I have a neat and organized way to house all the DVDs/Blu-rays instead of having them on different shelves or in different rooms.
Another popular series that I have heard a lot about from a co-worker is The Vampire Diaries. I have never seen the show before, but I’m all for horror related movies and shows. I’ve been wanting to see it but I hate tuning into a series that has been on for a while because I feel “lost” not knowing the complete back stories of all the characters.
Thankfully, owning The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Series, will help me to watch from the very first episode. I fully plan on watching (or shall I say “binge watching”) The Vampire Diaries over the next few months. It will be ideal for those cold winter nights or weekends when we are snowed in and there is nothing to do. Plus I can pop a DVD into my laptop and watch while my husband takes over the television on Sundays to watch football.
The Vampire Diaries stars Paul Wesley (Fallen, Everwood), Ian Somerhalder (Lost), Kat Graham (17 Again, Honey 2), Candice King (Dating Rules from My Future Self, Supernatural), Zach Roerig (Friday Night Lights), Matt Davis (Damages, Blue Crush) and Michael Malarkey (Raw).
The series is based on the series of books by L.J. Smith.
I’m super excited to start watching The Vampire Diaries. I plan on popping in the first DVD in this collection on Friday after work. I can’t wait!
You can find these sets at the Official Warner Bros. Online Store. Not only can you find these television shows on their online store, but you can also pick up accessories, clothing, home decor, toys and more.
Are you a fan of either (or both) series? Do you have a favorite character or story line? Feel free to share them with me. I always love to hear from readers.
Do you enjoy giving (or receiving) entertainment gifts for the holiday season? Why or why not?
