If you have a young child, grandchild, or work with children, chances are you are familiar with Fingerlings. Fingerlings are a line of adorable, collectible monkeys, sloths, and sloths that “grab” on to your fingers or other objects. They make cute sounds and their eyes open and close. They respond to sound, motion and touch.
I work with kindergartners during the day and K-3rd graders in the afternoon. I know all about Fingerlings, even though my own children are well past the target demographic. I see students at lunch time and out at recess with Fingerlings.
I thought they were a passing fad. I know they were the hot toy last year, but apparently they have plenty of staying power because I still see them at school and my kindergartners are crazy about them. One of my “school kids” has TWELVE of them. I think he owns every single one that they make.
I have played around with them. I can see the appeal. It’s like having a pet in some way, one that you don’t have to feed, water or clean up their waste.
Fingerlings tend to be more of a girl thing, but I do see plenty of young boys with them. The student I know who owns twelve of them happens to be a boy. Most of my students own several Fingerlings. They are very collectible.
I recently learned about something exciting about Fingerlings – Fingerlings MINIS! They are the same super adorable critters, but in a much smaller size. They are also not interactive (they do NOT movie or make sounds).
I was sent some Fingerlings Minis to checkout in person.
Fingerlings Minis come in “blind bags,” meaning you do not know which one you are going to receive. You will receive a random one. Some of the available characters are popular ones, but they also include rare, exotic and even ultra-rare Fingerlings Minis.
Fingerlings Minis are too small to grasp your finger, but they can hold on to a pencil (as a pencil topper) or other small objects. They do come with a small bracelet that the Fingerling can hold on to. The bracelet also comes with a small charm. They can even hold on to each other if you have more than one Fingerling Mini.
You can have multiple Fingerlings danging from one bracelet, or move the charms from other bracelets on to one. It’s totally up to you.
The bracelets are a wee bit small. I think they are best suited for kids around 5 years old. Older children can still enjoy the adorable little Fingerling Mini.
I love that they are the same Fingerlings as their larger cousins. They look identical in every way, except smaller.
Fingerling Minis are fun for children to collect. They also make great prizes, rewards and incentives for children. I plan on donating some of the Fingerling Minis I received to review to my kindergarten class. They get small rewards for when they complete the various charts and for other outstanding behaviors.
In addition to the new Fingerling Minis, there is anew Fingerlings YouTube channel that just launched. Fans can watch 3 fun and wacky shows featuring their favorite Fingerlings characters. New episodes air every week! You can check out the Fingerlings YouTube channel here. I should forewarn you that the opening theme song is very catchy and will probably get stuck in your head. LOL!
I checked out some of the episodes. The characters look exactly like the toys (and dare I say even cuter). Some of the characters on the show even have sparkles like real Fingerlings.
Each episode is a little over two minutes long. I could see this becoming a regular cartoon show that you see on television. That wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
