When I was growing up, a holiday party meant getting dressed up in an actual dress, fancy shoes, and my mom putting curlers in my hair so that I had bouncy curls in time for the party. Adults would drink wine and other types of liquor and keep to themselves, and kids would hang out by the Christmas tree, eating cookies and talking about what gifts we hoped Santa would bring to us.
This was back in the day when people got dressed up to take a plane ride. Have you seen how people on airplanes dress now? Sheesh!
Fancy, formal wear has been pushed aside in favor of casual clothing, and the popular “Ugly Sweater” parties.
I will admit that I have an ugly Christmas sweater somewhere in the back of my closet. I haven’t been to a holiday party in ages (compliments of the pandemic), so I haven’t had a need for it. Maybe one day soon I can pull it out and wear it again.
Are you familiar with the brand Shinesty? Shinesty is home to the largest collection of outrageous party clothing and themed party apparel – from your underwear to the hats on top of your head, and just about anything in between. They even offer an underwear subscription service. Talk about a unique gift idea. Imagine gifting your friend or significant other a subscription to an underwear service.
Here are some examples of the types of things you can find on the Shinesty website.
As you can see, Shinesty offers consumers quirky and fun clothing and accessories. Their holiday outfits crack me up (they have matching couples holiday outfits too!).
Shinesty asked if I would like to try out a few of their products. I was sent to review a pair of boy shorts, a bralet and a holiday dress.
For obvious reasons, I am not going to show photos of myself wearing the underwear or bralet.
The underwear I received to review is a boyshort set called The Big Bang.
These ultra-soft boyshort panties are guaranteed to feel better than what you usually wear because of the amazing MicroModal fabric. They feel softer than chinchilla butts, the clouds in the sky and sweet puppy bellies.
These boyshorts are made from a micromodal fabric that is three times softer than cotton, breathable and cozy.
Please don’t focus too much on the design. To be honest, I was more interested in the fact that the designs glow in the dark. They do! It’s not a strong glow (unless I just don’t have them in light for long enough?), but there is a soft glow when the lights go out.
These underwear are very comfy to wear. I love how they feel. It’s not the type of underwear that I am used to wearing (including the cut). The cut took a few wears to get accustomed to, but once I did, these turned out to be very comfy. They are roomy, even for me who is plus size. They didn’t “cut” into my skin at all. Even the legs openings were cut perfectly.
I chose the bralet called Threat Level Midnight (interesting name) because I wear a lot of black clothing, and I have a few blouses that are low cut, so I thought it would look fine if the bralet showed a bit.
The Mission: to create the most comfortable, versatile, discreet women’s bralette the world has ever seen. The Results: The Threat Level Midnight ladies strappy bralette. This may be the most bold invention to touch your tatas. It looks like a sports bra, gives subtle support like a bralette, and feels like the wings of an angel are cradling your sweet coconuts.
You’ve got to love the talented writers at Shinesty who write up the descriptions. They make me laugh.
Sadly, this is just a little too snug for me. I CAN wear it, but it would be a bit tight.
I do like that band that goes around your body. The couple of times I did wear this, it never rolled up on me. That is something that happens to me with other bralets, even bras. I don’t like when that happens because it’s not always possible to unroll it and keep it that way when I’m at work or out and about.
The quality of this is very good. Even the thin straps are sewed on snuggly and securely.

I chose this style because I like wrap around dresses and tops because I appreciate the ability to make it as loose, or tight, as I need it to be. Sometimes I like having a little “wiggly room,” if you catch my drift.
I also like the design. The Christmas lights are cute.
I’m sorry that the photo is a bit “off” because the colors of the lightbulbs really “pop” (they are very colorful).
I am also VERY self conscious about getting my photo taken because I am a plus size lady with ZERO confident and ZERO self-esteem (due to my weight). Sigh… That is why I didn’t do a full body photo. I also tend to cover up my tummy area in photos (sorry, I do that out of habit).
This dress is a little snug on me, and wrapping it was a bit tricky (I couldn’t figure it out at first), but I love this dress. It’s super cute. I think it’s ideal for the holiday season. I also don’t consider it “ugly” or “tacky.” I think this is a pretty dress. The length is also good on me. I’m 5′ 3″ and this dress hits just below the knee.
If you are interested in some festive clothing, or as a gag gift or holiday gift for others, you should definitely check out Shinesty. Their website is Shinesty.com. There are many pieces that are great for couples (a few X-rated things too).
