If you read my blog on a regular basis you know that my husband and I sleep on a sofa bed. Our condo is small and there isn’t enough bedrooms so we have been forced to endure sofa beds for the past 14 years. Sigh… If you have ever had to sleep on a sofa bed for just one night you how how awful they can be. Imagine having to do it every night… 365 days per year… for the past 14 years.
Sitting at the computer for long periods of time doesn’t help matters any. I have to admit that I don’t sit properly at my desk. I am sort of slumped over it. I don’t even want to know what its doing to my spin and it’s no wonder I have Carpal Tunnel in both wrists.
BackJoy (a Boulder-based company on a mission to naturally fix the way the world sits, stands, moves and sleeps) is donating up to $5,000 in pain-relief product to deserving charities on behalf of participating bloggers. I am one of the bloggers participating.
For every review or inclusion in a holiday gift guide from participating bloggers, BackJoy is going to donate $100 worth of their pain-relief products to various charities such as Cedars-Sinai Medical Center or Soles4Souls. Up to $5,000 worth of products will be donated in this special Give Back, Spread Joy campaign.
The holiday season can be a hectic, chaotic and stressful time. Between lugging around tons of packages, hunching over the table to wrap gifts, stress and spending long hours on your feet cooking and baking, it can do a lot to your body.
BackJoy sent me some products to review and help relieve some holiday aches and pains. I was sent to review the following items.
- SleepSound Pillow ($99.99)
- Sit Smart Posture Plus ($39.99)
- Trigger Point Massager ($29.99)
The SleepSound Pillow is SO NICE. I am a “pillow snob.” No ordinary pillow will work for me.
Sleeping on the sofa bed is not the most comfortable thing. I need pillows that will support my head and neck and work with me when I roll from side to side (I’m a side sleeper). I also need something that can support my head when I want to lie in bed and watch television.
According to the brand;
BackJoy’s SleepSound™ Pillow combines the support of memory foam and the soft comfort of down without the drawbacks of either.
The SleepSound Pillow is the world’s only patented pillow that self-adjusts to support optimal sleeping posture, whether you’re a side or back sleeper.
Our Soft Support™ Reinvented Down fill allows you to fall asleep in comfort, while the Cool Comfort™ Memory Foam layers support your head and neck in proper alignment throughout the night. This layered design provides superior loft without clumping or flattening.
The handcrafted pillow shell increases breathability to moderate heat for complete sleeping comfort. Innovative sidewalls flex and conform around the neck and shoulders for total comfort and alignment.
I can tell you from my experience with the pillow that it’s very comfortable. I love memory foam because you don’t have to continually “fluff” the pillow to get rid of flat spots.
It’s not too firm and not too soft. I really notice the neck support that it provides.
I find that once I have the pillow the way I like it I don’t have to keep moving around to find a comfortable spot. I’m comfortable no matter how I am lying on it or what direction I am facing.
The Sit Smart Posture Plus is a funny looking thing. If you didn’t know what it was for you would probably never gue it’s purpose.
BackJoy SitSmart is an innovative sitting device that naturally relieves back pain by optimizing your sitting posture. Safe and effective to use, it automatically positions your body in correct posture for all-day comfort. Its patented design works by tilting your hips upright and comfortably “floating” your spine over the seat.
All SitSmart seats have the same posture-improving benefits, regardless of which style you choose. The only difference between the various SitSmart models is the surface material that covers the seat. Regardless of which style you choose, your SitSmart will position your body in correct posture for all-day comfort.
- Natural back pain relief
- Easy-to-use design for correct posture
- Tilts the pelvis upright to engage core muscles
- Maximum comfort for long periods of sitting
- Works in any seat—office, car, home, or outdoors
I have to admit that initially it felt weird to sit on it in my desk chair. I was concerned that my big butt would not work well with it, but so far that has not been an issue. Once I got used to sitting on it I never gave it much thought. I just sit on the SitSmart on my desk chair and get to work on the computer.
It’s important that you position it in the correct way. The “handle” goes towards your front.
The SitSmart is suppose to help keep your spine aligned properly and provide you with proper posture while you are sitting – especially for long period of time.
This brief video will provide you with more information (FYI… I still like the person in the begining of the video – ugh!).
The SitSmart is lightweight and portable do you can take it with you to use while driving or at work too.
The Trigger Point Massger is the strangest looking contraption I’ve ever seen. I challenged my family to tell me what they thought it was and received these responses – “Something to hang clothes on,””Something to help you reach things on the top shelf in the cabinet,” and “I have no clue!”
When you look at it (pictured above) what do you think it is or what it’s used for?
The Trigger Point Massager does just that – it gives you the ablitity to massage specific pressure point on your body – even when you can’t reach them.
The Trigger Point Massager is lightweight, durable and simple to use. Simply hook the tool over your shoulder or around your body and use the therapy knobs to massage and release tight or achy muscles.
Relieve pain through direct pressure in your back, neck, shoulders, and anywhere else your body holds tension. The unique multi-purpose handles offer full control when navigating the device over your body. Therapy knobs provide deep trigger point release.
I didn’t think I would use this product as much, but I’ve been surprised by how much I DO use it on a day to day basis. It’s handy for working out the kinks in your neck and shoulders. It even doubles as a back scratcher. LOL!
It does take a little figuring out as far as which “nub” to use, how to use it and how much pressure to apply, but once you figure it out, it really does make a difference. It doesn’t replace my hubby giving me a back or shoulder massage, but it’s handy for the times I need one and he’s at work.
The massager is thin and lightweight. I hang our up in the closet. It hangs right over the wooden bar where the coat hangers hang from.
This video provide you with more information about the massager.
These might seem like unusual gift ideas, but they would me much appreciated by friends and loved ones who suffer from daily aches and pains. So far I am enjoying their benefits and I’m sure a lucky gift recipient would too.
