What type of sleeper are you? Covers on or covers off? Do you like it warm, or do you prefer a bit of a chill in the air? As for me, I only sleep with covers on if I’m freezing cold. Normally I sleep with them off, even in the winter. It goes without saying that I prefer it to be a bit chilly at bed time instead of hot.
What about sound? Are you someone who needs it to be completely silent and still at night, or do you require some kind of a background noise? As wrong as it is, I normally fall asleep with the television on, because I need some kind of a sound. I can fall asleep with a sound machine or a fan too. I just need some kind of a sound. During the hot weather months we have fans going, but when it’s cooler, such as this time of the year, the fans are packed away, so I need an alternate background sound, which is normally the television when the fans are not available.
If you are someone who needs a “sound” to help you fall asleep, let me introduce you to the LectroFan Evo Sound Machine.
The LectroFan EVO sleep sound machine uses state of the art technology to generate dynamic, realistic fan sounds, white noises, and ocean sounds to help block intrusive noises so you can relax, concentrate, and fall asleep easier. Featuring ten fan sounds, ten white, pink and brown noise, and two variations of ocean noise, The LectroFan Evo helps block out disruptive noise and keep you relaxed. Not only can you set a timer for sound control, but the Evo offers a headphone connector and portable speaker to match your environment and sleep style.
I was sent a LectroFan EVO to review.
I don’t need a sound to help block out other noises. The sound of vehicles whooshing by at all hours of the night doesn’t bother me (noisy neighbors and their loud music is another story). For me, I need a sound to focus on. It’s the same reason why I leave the television on as a “background sound” while I am working at my desk or doing something else around the house. I find it helps me to focus MORE, as odd as it sounds.
The LectroFan EVO is a small device (about the size of my hand) that plugs into an outlet.
The top of the fan features easy to understand control buttons (power, volume, timers). There are also two buttons for the sounds. One button is for the “color sounds” (white, pink, brown) and the other button is for the various fan sounds.
I honestly never know that there was other “color” sounds. I only knew of “white noise.” I can’t really describe what the pink and brown noises sound like, but my husband likens them to “static” sounds, like turning the radio dial to a station where there is no reception. Some of the sounds remind me of pouring rain or a rushing river. It’s really hard to describe them.
There is a fascinating section on the LectroFan website that teaches you more about the different “color” sounds. You can find that page here – White, Pink, and Brown Noise: What’s the Difference?
I have tired going through the different sounds, and I have a few that I think work well for me. My husband can sleep through fireworks, so he doesn’t need a sound to focus on at night (he does enjoy falling asleep to ocean waves, especially if there is a lone seagull making calls in the background…). I on the other hand appreciate the sounds.
My husband is okay with the fan sounds (some more than others – he likes the slower, less “harsh” sounding fans), but the white/pink/brown sounds he says throws him off. He feels like something is on, like the television or the radio, and he feels like he needs to get up and turn it off. For that reason I use the fan sounds at night, but during the day, if I feel like I need a nap, I’ll use the color sounds.
I wish there was a pre-set option so you can easily access your favorite sounds instead of having to scroll through them. That would be my own critique of the LectroFan EVO. Aside from that, I really like this. It’s unique in the sense that it give you so many sound options than the typical ocean waves, forest and jungle sounds like other sound machines offer. Not that there is anything wrong with those sounds (I love those sounds too!), I just like the uniqueness of these sounds. They are unlike anything I have heard before.
I was also sent to review the LectroFan Micro2. It’s also a sound machine, but this one is much smaller. Closed up it’s about the size of a jar of eye cream.
The speaker on the Micro2 spins open, which gives you the ability to direct the sound in any direction you want.
The Micro2 is portable and cordless (you charge it to provide it with power). It also came pre-charged.
This is perfect for someone who travels and would love to have a sound machine to help them sleep when they are far from home. I can tell you from personal experience that I have slept at some pretty noisy hotels before (trucks, cars, hotel guests…). I could have have used the Micro2.
This mini, yet mighty, LectroFan Micro 2 plays five digital fan sounds, four variations of white, pink and brown noise, and two ocean surf sounds. As if this wasn’t great enough, you can also use this as a Bluetooth speaker for your music AND can make calls with it with it’s built in microphone.
I love that it’s a speaker. I plan on bringing this to work with me all next month so I can play Christmas music for the kids.
You can up to 40 hours playing sleep sounds, or 20 hours playing Bluetooth audio between charges. That is a decent amount of time.
I keep the Micro2 at my desk. I use the color sounds and the fan sounds (I play around with the various sounds) while I am working. I find that it helps with my focus and concentration too. I don’t know why, but it does, and trust me, I am taking full advantage because lately my mind has been “mush,” and my ability to focus has been off. This sound machine has been helping me to get back on track.
The LectroFan EVO Sound Machine and the LectroFan Micro2 is great for anyone looking to get a good night’s sleep, drown out background noises, or find something for your brain to focus on to help you focus and concentrate. This would make a fantastic gift too for just about anyone on your holiday shopping list.
These would be great in a child or infant’s bedroom too.
