I am not a big fan of over the counter or prescription medications. If I can find a natural alternative to what ails me I would rather go that route first and foremost. When it comes to my health I also like to take extra vitamins and minerals to help me stay healthy. Currently I am taking extra vitamins to help boost my immunity. I work with young children and with winter coming I don’t want to pick up colds and/or the flu and bring it home to my family. One natural product with health benefits is ginger. I use ginger to help relive and upset stomach. I used to have chewables made out of ginger that I would chew when I wasn’t feeling well or when I got car sick. In fact I found out how well it helped for an upset stomach due to motion sickness years ago when I went to New York City for a blogger event and neglected to take Dramamine for motion sickness (I get car sick when I have to sit in the backseat). I found some ginger chewables and they quickly helped me to feel better. Ginger is not only a tasty ingredient in your recipes, but it also has health benefits. According to WebMD;
Ginger is commonly used to treat various types of “stomach problems,” including motion sickness, morning sickness, colic, upset stomach, gas, diarrhea, nausea caused by cancer treatment, nausea and vomiting after surgery, as well as loss of appetite. Other uses include pain relief from arthritis or muscle soreness, menstrual pain, upper respiratory tract infections, cough, and bronchitis. Ginger is also sometimes used for chest pain, low back pain, and stomach pain. Some people pour the fresh juice on their skin to treat burns. The oil made from ginger is sometimes applied to the skin to relieve pain.
Ginger also tastes good, so it’s both a tasty recipe ingredient or beverage. If you want to find ways of incorporating ginger into your diet there are plenty of delicious recipes you can make such as Ginger & Herb Rice or grated ginger sprinkled on top of vanilla ice cream. You can also drink ginger. A company called Gold Kili (SRP: $3.99) can help make getting ginger into your body a bit easier. Gold Kili is an all natural ginger beverage that is made from the finest grade ginger, giving a sharp spicy character. The various flavors produce a very pleasant and refreshing beverage with no sugar added. Gold Kili is available in four different varieties:
- All Natural Ginger
- All Natural Ginger Lemon
- Instant Ginger
- Instant Ginger Lemon
The All Natural Ginger and Ginger Lemon flavors can be enjoyed hot, while the Instant Ginger and Instant Ginger Lemon flavors can be enjoyed either hot or cold. I was sent a few samples of Gold Kili to review. I liked both the All Natural Ginger Lemon and Instant Ginger Lemon. The All Natural Ginger and Instant Ginger seemed like it was missing something. I didn’t want to add sugar. I ended up adding some lemon juice and on another occasions a smidgen of all natural honey. The honey really goes well with the spiciness of the ginger. I really enjoyed that combination. I preferred the beverage hot, even though you can enjoy it cold too. Even with the lemon the taste can be a bit strong so if you are not a fan of ginger, or have never tried ginger before, keep that in mind. I suppose you could water it down a bit if needed. I don’t know if I would drink these beverages on a daily basis, but will keep a few in my pantry just in case I needed a natural remedy for an upset stomach or other digestive issue.
