Did you know that today is National Cubicle Day?
I had a couple of jobs that had me sitting in a cubicle. Sadly, at both jobs I was unable to decorate and personalize my cubicle. They were just dreary, gray spots void of anything interesting to look at except the computer.
My husband used to work in an office where everyone had their own cubicle and they were able to decorate it any way they wanted to (within reason of course).
One year at my husband’s old job they had a contest to see which floor could come up with the best holiday decorations for the cubicles. You have to see how my husband and his co-workers went all out (they won too!). My favorite is the fireplace set up.
If you are allowed to do stuff like this where you work I say “go for it!” Why not have a fun and pleasant work environment.
Thankfully, I don’t have a job that requires me to sit in a cubicle anymore, however I do have a corner desk in our home and if sort of feels like a cubicle. Since it’s my home I can decorate my desk area any way I see fit.
My desk is currently covered in toys and collectibles. I’m just a big kid at heart. Some people might see my desk as a bit “odd” for an adult, but those who know me personally know that my desk is a reflection of me and how quirky I am.
One thing that I don’t see in a lot of cubicles are plants. If anything, plants should always be considered for your work space. Not only do they add color and flair, they also have health benefits and can help you to do better at work.
Adding a simple plant to your desk can boost your productivity by almost 50% according to a study by the University of Exeter. I find this amazing. Who knew a simple plant could do that (REAL plant – not fake ones).
Plants also have help to make your working environment cleaner and healthier. Plants eliminate carbon dioxide so there’s more clean air for you to breath in.
For example, the Hedera helix (a clinging evergreen vine) can help to reduce airborne fecal matter particles and filter out formaldehyde. Gross!
Plants can also make offices seem less “stale” by helping to circulate fresh, clean air.
I was sent some lovely house plants from Exotic Angel to bring life (and clean air!) to my desk.
I DID make the mistake of leaving them outside. When they arrived they were in cups. I went out the next day and picked up small pots to replant them in. I also put them outside because it was a beautiful day and I thought they would enjoy some fresh air and sunshine after traveling in a box to our home. I ended up accidentally leaving them outside too long – and over night. As a result a few leaves got a bit brown. Thankfully I have a neighbor with a “green thumb” so he helped me to take care of them and now they are looking good again.
Exotic Angel has a lot of fabulous plants that would make a beautiful addition to any cubicle, office or work space. They can also look lovely in your home.
We have cats and a dog, so always take pets into consideration when selecting a plant. If the plant is for your office work space I’m sure you’ll be OK with any choice. If you are purchasing a plant for your home, and you have pets, be sure to check and see if the plant/plants you are interested in are safe for pets.
Exotic Angel has a delightful assortment of plants to choose from and in various shapes, sizes and colors. Be sure to pick one that is best suited for the area you plan on putting it (low light, a lot of sunlight…).

Do you work in a cubicle space or office? How do you add your own personal touch to your space? Do you have plants in your cubicle/work station?

I had no idea that there was such a thing as national cubicle day. I don’t work in a cubicle, but I do work out of a large office with 2 other people, so it’s very similar.
