It’s the Fourth of July weekend. Can you believe it’s the Fourth of July already? It seems like only yesterday is was New Year’s Eve. Time flies way too quickly.
Normally we don’t make plans for the Fourth of July weekend. We don’t like to deal with traffic and most people we know go away for the holiday. We tend to just stay at home and watch the fireworks from a local minor league baseball stadium not far from our home.
This year we were invited to my cousin’s house in Pennsylvania for the holiday weekend. We were there not too long ago. They live on a lake. It’s beautiful there! We were looking forward to not only spending more time with our relatives, but also lounging by the lake and taking in the fresh air.
My cousin lives over three hours away. It’s a long road trip. Most of it is through the mountains and forests. Personally I enjoy the view but my kids get really board. They are not as keen about the beautiful sights as my husband and I are.
Instead of our kids listening to music on their iPhones for the entire trip, we were planning on letting them enjoy a fun, family movie instead.
Fox Home Entertainment sent my family a really fun and cute Home Road Trip party package, in honor of the release of the film Home. The hit animated film will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on July 28, 2015. The film is currently available on digital download (you and purchase/download it here – http://www.foxdigitalhd.com/home).
Our Home Road Trip party package included reusable water bottles (very important for long road trips), adorable Oh stress-ball like characters, earphones (a must have for listening to the movie and to music), bubbles, straws, fun light up headbands, an iPad Air (awesome!), a cover for the iPad and a code to download the film.
I love the little Oh character. He’s adorable!
We were going to let he kids watch the film on the iPad for part of the trip (the film is only about an hour and a half long, not including bonus features – the trip is 3 hours each way).
I have not seen the film yet. It looks super cute. I did cheat a bit and watch a snippet of it the other day but I stopped myself fro watching too much. I want to be able to watch the film from start to finish.
We were all set to go to Pennsylvania, but our plans had to change. Our neighbor who sometimes takes care of our dog for us had plans for the holiday weekend and won’t be around. Our other neighbor, who also helps with our dog from time to time, also has plans. We have no one who can walk our dog and feed our pets for us while we are gone. We can’t take the dog with us because he gets car sick.
Sadly we can’t go to the Pennsylvania for the holiday.
We’ve spent all day going back and forth with a new “game plan.” The weather might be “iffy” tomorrow (it might rain) so we’re not sure if we want to attempt going down to the New Jersey shore to the beach, or deal with the traffic and insane crowds and head down to New York City to watch the Fireworks. Right now it looks like we’re going to take a chance and drive down to the New Jersey Shore for the day. Our favorite beach is about an hour and forty five minutes each way (not including traffic). We’re “guesstimating” the trip will be at least two hours each way – enough time to enjoy Home.
I’ll be tweeting about our trip tomorrow (Forth of July) as well as sharing photos on Instagram. Follow me on Twitter (@She_Scribes) and on Instagram (SheScribes) as I share my Home Road Trip with my family. In addition check out the hashtag #HomeRoadTrip to see what other bloggers are doing this holiday weekend.
I’ll also be sharing our holiday weekend and review of Home in another post next week.
Have you seen the film Home? What did you think about it? Who is your favorite character?
What are your plans for the holiday weekend? Are you going on a road trip?
How do you entertain your family on long road trips? Feel free to share your suggestions.
Below is the film’s trailer. PLEASE NOTE the film is now available on Digital Download and will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on July 28, 2015.
