I wonder how many of my readers are in their 40’s? I’m a “forth-something” year old person myself.
When I was a kid and into my teenage years I LOVED to play video games. I always wanted an Atari but my mom wouldn’t buy me one. All I had was an Intellivision. Not that it was a bad playing system, but I really wanted an Atari because I wanted to play cool games like the ones I played in the local arcade.
Some of my favorite arcade games included Pac Man, Mrs. Pac Man, Centipede, Asteroids, Dig Dug, Phoenix, Frogger, Space Invaders and Donkey Kong.
My husband was the same way. He enjoyed spending a lot of time (and quarters!) playing arcade games. He also had an Atari. Boo! Too bad we didn’t know each other back then. I would have hung out with him. 🙂
Now you can “kick it old school” with a new film available NOW from Phase 4 Films called Donkey Kong Country. That’s right – I said DONKEY KONG! How cool is that?
Here is a brief synopsis of the film;
When King K. Rool’s last attack fails, he comes up with a new strategy to steal the Crystal Coconut by cloning Candy Kong with an evil robot. While trimming Donkey Kong’s hair, Candy Clone puts a hex on him that removes all of his strength, which now leaves the Crystal Coconut without a protector. With time running out, Cranky must come up with an antidote and get it to Donkey Kong before King K. Rool and his arm succeeds in their next attack.
This was a cute family friendly movie. It’s not really a movie per say. It’s a bunch of different episodes that seamlessly blend into one another. The beauty of that is that you can watch just and episode or two (depending on your child’s attention span) and turn the DVD off. Then the next time you put it into your VCR you can pick up where you left off and not feel like you missed anything. I also like that you don’t have to watch the entire thing in one sitting. All together it’s 90 minutes. I was able to pop the DVD in here and there whenever I had the time to watch it. I didn’t have to worry about carving our an hour and a half time block to watch it.
I tried to get my kids to watch the DVD with me. They just rolled their eyes and walked away. They did glance at it from time to time but showed no interest. In all fairness my kids are teenagers. As a parent I think this DVD is better for the 12 and under crowd.
For little ones the episodes are fun to watch. The only “issue” I have is that Candy Kong is a bit too sexy for my tastes. Since this is geared more towards little kids I would have liked to have seen Candy Kong in a cute little sundress or something similar and not the tight, cleavage showing ensemble she wears in the DVD. Other than that I had no issue.
It was fun to watch the DVD. It brought back memories of my youth and how much fun I used to have (and how many hours I spent) playing Donkey Kong at our local arcade. I love that bit of nostalgia it brought back.
Even if your child or grandchild has no clue who Donkey Kong is they will still enjoy this DVD and the crazy adventures that await Donkey Kong and his friends.
Look for Donkey Kong Country where ever movies are sold.
