Is it true that admitting you have a problem is the first step towards recovery? If that is so then I have to admit to an “addiction” that I have. I’m addicted to cookbooks. I have more cookbooks then any ONE person should ever need. I think I have enough to start a cooking section of the library.
Do YOU have a lot of cookbooks? Seriously, what is their appeal? I know the pictures are sure nice to look at. It’s a great way to indulge in delicious foods without gaining and ounce.
I have a nice assortment of cookbooks. I have A LOT of Weight Watchers cookbooks including 5 Ingredient 15 Minutes, Shortcut Cookbook, WW Home Style Recipes and severl “annual” editions. I also have Jenny Craig, Richard Simmons, and numerous other “healthy” cookbooks.
For some odd reason I have several annual editions of Southern Living cookbooks too.
There are cookbooks for kid friendly foods, cookbooks for desserts, a book on how to make food to give as gifts and even a Cake “Bible”.
Sadly this is not all of my cookbooks either! I have a few in the kitchen too yet I never open them up and pick out recipes. WHY?
My new favorite cookbook is called Bite Me. I flip through the pages like I’m reading a novel, drooling over every recipe I see. Yet I have yet to try any of them.
My family pretty much eats the same thing week after week. It’s a given that every week we’ll have pasta at least once or twice, ravioli, pork cutlets and something we refer to as “steak meat”, which is really just inexpensive cuts of meat. I guess you can say its more like “poor man’s steak”. Ha Ha.
In between those staples we have stew, baked ziti and the occasional pot of lentils. Last night dinner was tuna mixed with hard boiled eggs on toast. Tonight we’re having fried eggs, Italian bread and fries. Why not Chicken Cacciatore? Or Balsamic Chicken? How come I don’t whip up a pot of homemade soup? Is it laziness? Lack of $$$? Lack of skill? UGH!
In 2011 I am determined to add more diverse meals into our weekly menu. I haven’t started it as of yet but I am going to go through my cookbooks and pick out at least one new recipe to try each and every week. I’ll include the recipe here on my blog as well as let you know how it turned out and what my family thought of it. Hopefully this will inspire others to try something new or to add to their own recipe collection.
Eventually I’d like to designate a specific day for the recipe and review of the recipe (including pictures whenever possible). I haven’t figured out which day would work best as of yet, but I’ll certainly let you all know.
I plan on sharing a lot more recipes here on my blog too. I come across so many delicious recipes that I think others will enjoy too.
I’m also determined to reply A LOT less on “pre-made” meals by the end of this year too. I want to use more fresh (from local growers) foods and learn to incorporate things like spices, herbs and other seasonings too – not JUST ketchup (ha ha).
You’ve seen most of my cookbook collection. Are there any books that interest YOU? What kinds of recipes would you be most interetsed in? Healthy recipes? Kid friendly recipes? Soups? Crockpot? Desserts? Tell me what you’d be most interested in and I’ll be sure to feature those kinds of recipes.

I used to have tons of cookbooks. I loved the pictures and seeing different recipes, but there reached a point where I realized I would NEVER be able to make all the dishes in those books if I lived to be 1,000. So, I made myself start giving them away and now if I see one I have to have, another has to go. This has been very difficult and the fact that it is even a problem for me means I must need professional help!
BTW, read your other post about rambling. I like the black dress with the little jacket.
