Now available on digital platforms is Disney’s Moana 2. The film will be available on Blu-ray, 4K UHD and DVD March 18, 2025.
The film stars the voice talents of Auli’i Cravalho, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and singer Nicole Scherzinger, to name a few.
It’s been a few years since the first film. Moana spends her days traveling the ocean in hopes of finding other communities of people. When she’s not out exploring, she spends her time with her family back on her island. This time around she has a younger sister, Simea.
One day Moana gets a vision from one of her ancestors, warning her that the people on her island will eventually disappear if she cannot connect the other people who call the ocean islands their home. The only way she can find them is to raise an island that was purposely sunk called Motufetu. The island was sunk by storm God named Nalo who doesn’t like humans. If she can find a way to raise the island, she will be able to connect with other groups of people.
Moana gathers a crew, along with her pets HeiHei (rooster) and Pau (pig) to help her on her quest to find Motufetu.

FUTURE OF MOTUNUI — Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical “Moana 2” sends Moana (voice of Auli‘i Cravalho) on an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. Kele (voice of David Fane) is a farmer who knows which plants can successfully sail the seas, Moni (voice of Hualālai Chung) is the designated storyteller, and Loto (voice of Rose Matafeo) is a brilliant engineer in charge of Moana’s canoe. Directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller, and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino, “Moana 2” opens in theaters on Nov. 27, 2024. © 2024 Disney Enterprises, Inc. Meanwhile, Maui is also looking for the island. He didn’t want to get Moana involved in fear she would perish in the process. Little does he know that Moana is looking for the same island.
Will Maui and Moana once again join forces to find the legendary island? Will they find a way to raise a sunken island so that Moana can connect with other island people? To find out, check out Moana 2. Look for it on digital and on Blu-ray, DVD and 4K UHD on March 18, 2025.
Just like in the first film, there are a lot of songs in this film too. I’ve only seen the film once thus far, so none of them stand out to me yet, unlike the original film (I thought “Your Welcome” and “Shiny” were very catchy). I’m sure as I watch Moana 2 more songs will stand out to me. They were all good. Sometimes songs in family/children films can get a bit grating, but not in this film.
I appreciate that they brought back the original voice cast of Moana and Maui. The film wouldn’t be the same without Dwayne Johnson’s voice. I alos love that the film maker brought back HeiHei and Pau. Pau looks like he’s grown, and HeiHei is still getting in trouble.
They also brought back the “coconut people” (Kakamora). This time around they are on Moana’s side. In fact, one of them joins her crew in hopes of finding the sunken island.
There are some interesting new characters. I thought the character of Loto was funny. He’s a total fan boy for Maui and it’s funny to see just how obsessed he is with him, especially when he meets him in person.
It’s an interesting storyline, but to be honest, I liked the first film better. I just feel like sometimes movies don’t need sequels. I’m on the fence as to whether or not a sequel to Moana was necessary or not. I guess because the original film was such a huge hit it was only inevitable that a sequel would happen.
