One of my family’s favorite movies is Finding Nemo. Who knew that underwater creatures could be so much fun. 🙂
The movie featured Sea Turtles. Sea Turtles have always fascinated me. They are so massive! I couldn’t imagine hanging out on a boat in the ocean and seeing a Sea Turtle swim by. That must be an amazing sight to see.
My daughter actually loves Turtles. She has a few plush ones on her headboard.
Have you ever seen documentaries that show Sea Turtle hatchings making their way from their nest to the ocean? It’s such an amazing sight to see (baby Sea Turtles are so cute!). Sadly most of them don’t make it to the sea. They are usually picked off by hungry sea birds. Even those that are lucky enough to make it into the sea still face a lot of challenges. Only a small fraction of them actually make it to adulthood. That is so sad!
A new movie that is now available on Blu-ray and DVD called A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventures is the story about the life of a Sea Turtle name Sammy.
Here is the movie’s trailer. If you are reading this via e-mail you an view the trailer here, http://bit.ly/HAV48r.
Born on a Baja, California beach in 1959, new hatchling Sammy must do what his fellow newborn sea turtles are doing: race across the beach to the ocean before a seagull or crab captures them. Thus begins Sammy’s incredible fifty-year ocean journey. Along the way he meets his best friend, a fellow turtle named Ray, and overcomes obstacles both natural and man-made while trying to fulfill his dream of travelling around the world. Throughout his travels, Sammy never forgets about Shelly – the turtle he saved on his first day and loves passionately from afar. Based on the actual course of a sea turtle’s life, this story of one creature’s breathtaking journey is a thrilling voyage the whole family will enjoy.
This movie is incredibly cute! I loved every moment of it. My whole family did. Of course now my daughter wants a turtle even MORE. LOL! Too bad you couldn’t have a Sea Turtle as a pet.
What is not to love about this movie. The characters are adorable. At times the film is visually stunning and the story is heart-warming. In a way this is educational too because it gives you a glimpse into the life of a Sea Turtle. While many of the adventures that Sammy and his friends have a long the way are make believe, a lot of what he goes through as a Sea Turtle is similar to the life of a real Sea Turtle.
I like that the movie puts a lot of emphasis on the friendship between Sammy and Ray. Sammy does go on a quest to find his long lost love, Shelly. So a lot of the story line is based on that, but I don’t think young children will really pick up on that. I think they will be too entertained with the various characters Sammy meets during his lifelong travels and the silly misadventures that he gets into.
The movie is rated PG, but for the life of me I cannot figure out the reason why. There might be a few scenes that could be seen as “intense” for the youngest viewer, but to be honest with you I saw more intense things with Disney movies there were rated G. Don’t let the PG rating sway you. This is truly a family friendly movie and great for children of all ages.
I liked the soundtrack for the film too.
There is a little bit of environmentalism in this movie too, which makes it ideal for Earth Month (April). Hopefully it will encourage not only children, but families, to protect and care for the oceans.
Even my husband and ‘tween son enjoyed the movie. I knew my teen daughter would since it was able turtles. I was surprised that it kepe my husband and son’s attention.
A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventures is available Blu-ray and DVD. Look for it where ever movies are sold.
