Now available on Blu-ray, DVD, On Demand and Digitla HD is the action thriller Hell or High Water.
Hell or High Water stars Academy Award® winner Jeff Bridges (Best Actor, Crazy Heart, 2009), Chris Pine (Star Trek), and Ben Foster (Lone Survivor).
From the writer of Sicario, Hell or High Water is a modern western about two brothers who turn to crime in order to save their family farm from the clutches of the bank. Hailed as one of the year’s best films since it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, the film has since gone on to garner a stellar 98% “Certified Fresh” critics’ score, and equally impressive 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
When a desperate father (Pine) learns that the bank is going to take his family’s land, he and his ex-con brother (Foster) are left with no choice. They decide to rob the bank’s branches, putting themselves in the crosshairs of an aging Texas Ranger (Bridges) in a riveting story of crime, punishment, and brotherly love.
This is not the type of movie I would normally watch, but I like Chris Pine (total “eye candy” – LOL) and the trailer looked interesting.
Below is the trailer for your enjoyment.
The film is very violent, as you can tell from the trailer. I’m not a big fan of these types of movies, but, I think the story line outweighs the violent scenes.
It’s hard not to feel for the brothers. I’m sure most of us have found ourselves in a place where we feel like our backs are against the wall and there is no way out. I think in that respect these characters are very relate able. I’m not suggesting that sane people rob banks, but I think there are times many of us which we could find a way out of our troubles while getting back at those who put us in those situations.
The brothers were not robbing banks for the thrill of it, for to get money to buy frivolous things. They needed the money to save the family homestead. With each robbery they are putting their lives in more and more danger. In fact, what seemed like a good plan at the time quickly gets out of control.
Jeff Bridges was the perfect casting choice as the sheriff. It’s like that role was written with him in mind.
The cinematography in this film really adds to the emotion and drama of the film. I don’t know where the film was shot, but it’s beautiful, yet desolate, location.
The film does have some bonus features worth checking out.
- “Enemies Forever: The Characters of Hell or High Water” Featurette
- “Visualizing the Heart of America” Featurette
- “Damaged Heroes: The Performances of Hell or High Water” Featurette
- Red Carpet Premiere
- Filmmaker Q&A
The bonus feature are worth checking out. It gives you a better appreciation for the film, especially when you hear about it from the people who helped bring this film to life.
This is NOT a “family friendly” film. There is a lot of violence, foul language, nudity and sexual situations.
Look for Hell or High Water where ever movies are sold.
