Available today on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Download and 4K Ultra HD from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is the film The Huntsman: Winter’s War.
The film stars Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt, Chris Hemsworth and Jessica Chastain.
If you have seen the film, Snow White and the Huntsman, staring Kristin Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, this film is in a way a prequel and a sequel to that film.
The Huntsman: Winter’s War starts off with the evil Raveena (Theron) making her way through kingdoms and conquering them to make her queen. We also get to meet her sister Freya (Blunt). Freya is nothing like her sister. She has a kind heart and believes in things like love. In fact, Freya has been having an affair with a Nobleman. She gets pregnant and gives birth to a beautiful baby girl. Freya’s heart is filled with love. She cannot imagine loving anything more than her daughter.
Freya’s world is shattered when her lover murders her baby. The event angers Freya so much that dormant powers that lied inside of her come pouring out of her. Freya has the ability to turn things into ice. Oddly enough, Raveena is not saddened by the child’s death – she is more pleased about Freya’s evil side coming out.
Freya leaves her sister’s kingdom and makes her own kingdom in the North. She also has children taken from their families and brought to her kingdom where she teaches them to be her soldiers (huntsmen).
Two of her finest soldiers, Eric and Sara, grow up and fall in love – even though Freya is against love and teaches the child soldiers that loving is a sin and has no place in her kingdom.
When Freya finds out about their relationship she puts an immediate end to it, even if it means killing one of them off.
Erica some how survives Freya’s fate for him and is able to escape.
During his time away from Freya is when he helped Snow White defeat the evil Raveena.
Eric learns that Raveena’s magic mirror is in danger of being taken by Freya. It’s imparative that they find the mirror before she does.
With the help of some friends – and someone very unexpected – the group heads out to find the magic mirror before Freya does.
Can the group get to the mirror before Freya? What will Freya do when she finds that Eric is alive. Who is the unexpected person who helps Eric on his quest. And the biggest question of all… is Raveena really dead?
To find out the answers you need to pick up (or download) a copy of The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Look for it where ever movies are sold.
I liked the original film, Snow White and the Huntsman. I am not a fan of Kristin Stewart, but I did enjoy Charlize Theron in the movie. The special effects were amazing too.
I liked the story in The Huntsman: Winter’s War better. There are plenty of great special effects, but the bulk of them come at the end of the film.
Charlize Theron has the evil queen thing down perfectly. She’s such a beautiful woman but she can really turn herself into a scary “monster.” She can so easily portray pure evil. I’m very impressed. Even some of her facial expressions I found to be terrifying.
Chris Hemsworth was an excellent choice to play the Huntsman and Jessica Chastain surprised me as a fierce warrior.
I’m on the fence with Emily Blunt. Long story… I won’t go into it, but I didn’t have a pleasant experience with her (press junket – different movie).
Overall the film was entertaining. There were some slow moments, but it wasn’t too bad.
The film won’t win any movie awards, but it’s fun to watch.
The film is rated PG-13. There is some partial nudity and violence – plus a creepy looking monkey-like creature with horns that some children might find too intense.
There are some bonus features included.
