Available today on Blu-ray and DVD is the film Knights of Badassdom. The film stars Steve Zhan (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Daddy Daycare), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, Elf), Ryan Kwanten (True Blood, Summerland) and Summer Glau (The Cape, Alphas).
Hung (Dinklage), Eric (Zahn) and Joe (Kwanten) are three roommates living together in a home that looks like a castle. The trio are big into games like Dungeons and Dragons and similar Medieval-type games.
When Joe’s girlfriend breaks up with him he is left heartbroken. To get him out of his “funk” Hung and Eric drug him and take him along with them to a role playing event where participants reenact Dungeons and Dragons-like scenarios deep in the woods. Everyone is dressed up like they are from the Middle Ages, even going so far as to talk in the same type of language.
At first Joe thinks this is really stupid but then realizes that it has potential to be fun – even though every one is running around with rubber weapons and all he’s allowed to have is a small rubber mallet.
Hung, Joe and a couple of others think it would be fun to use an ancient book to summon evil. They don’t take it too seriously. For them it’s more so acting out the parts. Unbeknown to them their actions really do summon an evil succubus from hell on to Earth.
The evil demon is in the shape of an attractive woman – who happens to be Joe’s ex-girlfriend.
As the demon is roaming around the woods killing off the role playing participants it’s up to Joe, Hung, Eric and a girl name Gwen to summon up as much courage as they can and face the evil they conjured up before it’s too late.
Will they succeed? To find out you need to pick up a copy of Knights of Badassdom available today (April 1, 2014) where ever movies are sold.
The film is rated “R” due to a lot of drug usage, foul language and gore-graphic violence. I think they could have made this film without including the drug usage. I didn’t feel like that was necessary.
The movie was more graphic than I thought it was going to be. It doesn’t bother me (I’m a fan of horror movies). I was just surprised by the graphic violence. It didn’t appear to be so bad in the trailer.
The movie has it’s funny moments, and most of the scenes with the evil succubus were good (coming from a horror fan point of view) but over all the movie had a “frat boy” appeal to it. Meaning this movie would probably go over great at a frat house where drugs, sexy women and off beat comedy would be appreciated.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s not a bad movie – it just wasn’t my “cup of tea”. The trailer pretty much highlights all the good points. I did laugh a few times but not as much as I anticipated that I would.
If you are into Dungeons and Dragons, Medieval things or role playing activities then you might appreciate this film more so than the average viewer.
Look for Knights of Badassdom where ever movies are sold.

Too bad, when I read the title of the movie it sounded like something I might watch, but now that I hear that it has drug usage, foul language, and graphic violence I don’t think it’s my cup of tea either. Thank you for sharing this review, but I’ll have to pass on this one.

This looks like a movie that I would have watched in my younger days. But not now. I don’t think a movie has to use all the dirty language, drug use and graphic violence to be good. They need to tone it done a lot.
