Now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download is a new Sci-Fi thriller Stranded.
I was looking forward to reviewing Stranded because it stars Christian Slater. I have not seen him in a movie since Interview with a Vampire.
Slater stars as Col. Gerard Brauchman, who runs a bio-dome facility along with only a handful of people including Dr. Lance Krauss (Brendan Fehr), Ava Cameron (Amy Matysio) and Bruce Johns (Michael Therriault).
An unexpected meteor shower hits the bio-dome causing a disruption in their air source. It causes CO2 levels to build up inside the bio-dome, which can have serious consequences. They need to repair the problem right away.
Upon inspection of the damage the crew discovers odd “spore” like things on the meteor that they take inside to examine it. If anyone knows a thing or two about Sci-fi movies, taking an unidentified object inside your space craft can only lead to trouble. LOL!
Dr. Krauss warns everyone that the increased levels of CO2 will cause hallucinations, which could explain why the crew is suddenly experiencing odd things.
While examining the meteor Ava accidently cuts herself. Some how this impregnates her with an alien baby. As with most alien babies they grow super fast. Ava soon gives birth to something – or did she really? Was it an actual birth or a hallucination from the CO2 poisoning? No, it’s an actual alien baby, who goes on to bite one of the crew members and morph into him.
Now with a shape-shifting predatory life form lose in the bio-dome, it’s picking off crew members one by one. Because it can replicate it’s victims, it’s hard to tell who is real and who is the alien.
The crew has one final mission before it’s too late – find the creature and prevent it from escaping. If it does and finds it’s way to Earth it will destroy our planet in no time.
Is there REALLY an alien running around on board the bi0-dome, or is the crew just going crazy due to the CO2 poisoning? To find out you need to pick up a copy of Stranded, now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download.
I am not sure if this film was ever seen in theaters or on TV. It might be straight to video.
It was fun to see Christian Slater in a film. I honestly thing he did a great job in this role, however the movie was a bit more on the comedic side than it was a thriller. The story idea was pretty cool, but it’s also been done already (think Aliens).
Some of the scenes were laughable. I know it is a Sci-fi thriller, but some times it was a bit silly.
This film reminds me of something you would see on the Sci-fi Channel. It’s a bit “campy” at times. I could easily see this film being a “cult classic”, so to speak, along the lines of Sharknado – although this film is a million times better. This film is at least entertaining where as Sharknado is just plain stupid and a total waste of 90 minutes.
Do you remember the show Mystery Science Theater 3000? It was a comedy series where a man and his robots were imprisoned on a space station and forced to watch movies. They would make commentary throughout the film. Stranded would be AWESOME on Mystery Science Theater. It’s the kind of movie they would look for (they loved critiquing Sci-fi films).
Don’t get me wrong, Stranded is not a bad film. It’s entertaining, and that is what it’s all about. I think with a bit more of a budget they could have made this movie even better. The props and sets were not very realistic looking. Not like today’s CGI images. For example, the space station didn’t look realistic at all. You can tell it was made out of miniatures.
If you like Sci-fi films, you’ll certainly find Stranded entertaining.
Look for Stranded where ever films are sold.
Here is the trailer for your entertainment.

When you mentioned the lady (perhaps) having an alien baby – I flashed back to Sigourney Weaver in Alien. That shows how a movie can invade your brain.
