Available on DVD and On Demand is adorable family friendly holiday film Up on the Wooftop.
The film has all the makings of the perfect family friendly holiday film – adorable talking animals, cute kids, Santa and holiday hi-jinx.
When it comes to films about cute animals I am more than happy to do a review. Ditto for holiday films.
When Santa (Dennis Haskins of “Saved by the Bell”) discovers that his dog Toby (Voiced by Adam Hicks of Disney’s “Zeke and Luther”) is missing, he enlists the help of everyone in the North Pole to find the adorable little pup. It turns out that Toby was left behind at the suburban Iowa home of the Anderson family during a test flight of Santa’s sleigh. Now Toby must convince the Andersons of his true identity so that they can help him get back to the North Pole by Christmas Eve! Along the way, Toby learns that it’s more important to have a big heart than to be a big dog, as he helps the Anderson kids foil the evil plans of a crooked mall Santa & his elf henchmen, and most importantly, helps their dad rediscover the magic of Christmas.

The dog who plays the role of Toby is SO CUTE! Our dog, Espn, is part Rat Terrier (I’m assuming the dog playing the role of Toby is a Jack Russel Terrier). He reminded my family of our dog (when our dog is shaved/groomed that is).
I have to admit that I was surprised that Dennis Haskins was Santa. He looks so different than his “Saved by the Bell” days. If I didn’t know it was him I would have never had guessed it.
The film was a bit cliche at time, and often predictable, but that is coming from an adult’s perspective. Children will not see it that way. They will be mesmerized by the talking animals and the whole idea of Santa. Even so, as an adult, I still enjoyed the film. It’s a fun film that will give you the “warm fuzzies.” It’s geared more towards children (dog fart jokes, snowball fight…) but adults can enjoy the film too.
My teenagers were not overly impressed (they did love the adorable dogs featured in the film). My husband said it was a cute movie and he would watch it again. I would also watch it again if I saw it on TV. We have the DVD (I was sent a copy to review). It’s not one of the holiday films I would reach for on a regular basis, but if I happened to grab it by mistake, or see it on TV, I would certainly watch it again. Sometimes you need a light-hearted holiday film.
The film has a fun time of a little less than an hour and a half.
Look for Up on the Wooftop where ever DVDs are sold, on On Demand. You can also check out the film on Facebook.
This film would make a great stocking stuffer too!
Are you a fan of holiday films? Do you like films that feature talking animals? Feel free to share your thoughts.
