Now available on DVD is the film Wild Oats featuring an all star cast that includes Demi Moore, Jessica Lange, Shirley MacLaine, and Billy Connolly. This comedy proves that Lange and MacLaine still have a lot of acting “life” left in them.
MacLaine stars as Eva. Lange plays her best friend, Maddie.
Eva’s husband has just passed away. Eva is concerned about the life insurance policy that is coming to her. She worries that it won’t be enough to live on (especially in this day and age).
Eva’s daughter (played by Demi Moore), doesn’t exactly help her feel better about her situation. Eva doesn’t know how she’s going to move on with her life without her beloved husband.
When the check arrives, Eva is expecting $50,000. To her surprise, the check has some extra zeros in it totaling five MILLION dollars.
Eva could do the responsible thing and alert the insurance company about their mistake – or – cash in the check and live life to the fullest with no worries (except for the worry of being caught).
Eva and Maddie take a chance and cash in the check. To their surprise, the bank approves it.
Eva and Maddie set off on a tropical vacation to the Canary Islands, where they plan on living it up in luxury (a sort of “no rules apply” vacation).
The ladies never anticipated what would transpire. They soon discover that they are “wanted” by the insurance company, who is on a quest to track them down. The ladies also have to deal with con-men who are after their money (or should I say the insurance company’s money).
Can the ladies be stopped before they spend all the money or will they succeed is having the adventure of a lifetime? To find out you need to pick up a copy of Wild Oats. Look for it where ever movies are sold. It’s also available on Digital HD/Download.
Funny! Funny! Funny! I was surprised at how funny this movie is. MacLaine and Lange still have it.
The whole idea of two older woman “stealing” five million dollars from an insurance company and trying to out wit con-men seems silly, but it works with this film.
This movie is well acted and it will make you fall in love with MacLaine and Lange.
I wouldn’t consider this a family friendly film, per say, only because I think younger children wouldn’t have any interest and there are some scenes of people naked in bed (no nudity) and sexual flirting. The film is rated PG-13.
If you are looking for a lighthearted, funny, entertaining film to watch this weekend, you should check out Wild Oats. You’ll be glad you did.
