I am not one to watch any of the dozens of cop shows that are currently airing on television. It’s not that I don’t think they would be interesting, it’s just that the market is saturated with crime shows and cop dramas. None of them come across (to me anyway) as being too original.
Coming to NBC on Monday, September 21, 2015 (10:00 PM EST / 9:00 PM CST) is a new crime/cop drama that stands out from the rest. It’s called Blindspot.
Blindspot stars Jaimie Alexander as “Jane Doe” and Sullivan Stapleton as FBI Agent Kurt Weller. Another actress who I noticed is Ashley Johnson. She played Crissy Seaver on the popular series Growing Pains back in the early 90’s. She had a small role and I’m not sure if it’s reoccurring role or not.
I had the opportunity to view the pilot episode. It literally drags you right into the story within the first few minutes.
A duffle bag is found in the middle of Times Square in New York City. In this day and age when you find a suspicious “package” you need to assume the worst (bomb, terrorist action…). It is soon discovered by the bomb squad that the mysterious package doesn’t contain a bomb but rather a naked woman who is covered from head to toe in tattoos.
The woman they found in the bag doesn’t have any memory whatsoever. She doesn’t know who she is or how she ended up in the bag. She also cannot explain the hundreds of tattoos that cover her entire body. It is discovered that all the tattoos were done recently – as if they were done at the same time.
One obvious tattoo is the name of an FBI agent, Kurt Weller, that is predominantly displayed on her back. He is summed to New York City in hopes he could shed some light on who this woman is and what she was doing naked in a duffle bag in the middle of New York City.
Weller has no idea who she is. He has never met her before. It’s just as much a mystery to him as it is everyone else.
The mysterious women in named Jane Doe.
Upon examination of her tattoos one is discovered written in Chinese. Jane is able to translate it (how does she know to read and speak a Chinese language?). It provides them with a date (the same day they were reading it) and an address. Perhaps there is something at that address that can help shed light on to who Jane Doe really is.
I won’t give away too much details, but Jane Doe does exhibit other skills such as a excellent fighting skills as well as the ability to shoot accurately under pressure.
Who is Jane Doe? Why can’t anything be found to give a clue as to who she is? Why is there no DNA or fingerprint matches?
What does Agent Weller have to do with all of this? Only time will tell.
I’m not 100% sure but I think each week a new clue as to who Jane Doe really is will be revealed. If that is the case it’s a really unique approach to your typical cop/drama/crime show.
I enjoyed the pilot episode very much. It was filled with enough action, intrigue, mystery and drama to hold my interest. I fully intend on watching the following episodes to find out more about who Jane Doe is and how she’s connect to Agent Weller.
