School is back in session… stores have Halloween candy and decorations for sale… the weather is cooling down… you know what that means. Winter and the cold, harsh months are not too far behind. Ugh!
I honestly don’t mind winter that much. I’m not a fan of shoveling off my car or driving on slippery roads. Thankfully my job closes if the roads are too bad. What I really don’t like about the cold weather is how dry my skin gets. In fact, my skin is already starting to get dry.
I try to take care of my skin on a daily basis. Not just my facial skin, by the rest of my body as well. I make sure to moisturize every day, even during the summer. Sometimes that is not enough and I need something better than your standard body moisturizer. When my skin starts to get dry I reach for the “good stuff,” that is, stuff that uses ingredients such as Shea butter or Cocoa Butter (I grew up using cocoa butter).
I also make it a habit of exfoliating my skin 2-3 times per week. It’s a great way to slough off dry, flaky skin.
I’ve had the opportunity to try out some delightful body products from the brand Ooh La La (I love the name!).
Ooh La La is proudly a black and woman owned business.

The company’s motto is Made with Nature. Blessed by God!
Ooh La La believes that healthy whole skin care is a human right. That is why they only want to create the best skin care products.
According to the brand;
The skin is the largest organ of the body. On the skin’s surface are pores. Pores are tiny minute openings through which gasses, liquids or other matter are absorbed. Therefore, whatever you put on your skin is just as important as what you put in your mouth.
You don’t want to intentionally place harmful substances on the skin since that was not the purpose for which it was intended; because, when placed on the skin these products are absorbed through the pores, into the body.
That makes perfect sense when you think about it. I know that it drives me crazy when I look at the ingredients on beauty products, especially ones I use on a regular basis, and they contain ingredients I can’t pronounce, let alone understand what they are and why they are needed in the product I am using.
I WISH we could get back to basics and create products using minimal, natural ingredients. They were good enough for our ancestors, so why can’t they be good enough for us now?
I was sent to review an Ooh La La sugar scrub and an Ooh La La body butter.
I love me a good sugar scrub!
I am not a fan of scrubs that use nut shells as their ingredient to exfoliate the skin. The pieces get all over the shower and the bath tub and they are impossible to clean up. For that reason I appreciate a sugar (or salt) scrub better. Sugar and salt dissolve, so if any gets on the tub or shower walls, you can splash some water on it and it will dissolve and wash away.
This is a nice, thick sugar scrub. You don’t need a lot either.
Enjoy the spa experience at home with Ooh La La’s Custom Sugar Scrub. Ooh La La Sugar Scrub not only cleanses but exfoliates your skin as it contains organic Castile Soap. This is a luxurious way to exfoliate (the removal of dead skin cells from the body). Wash with the Body Sugar Scrub then follow with our Body Butter & Moisturizing Cream. This will leave your skin silky smooth and singing Ooh La La.
What I find cool about this sugar scrub is that you can CUSTOMIZE it. You can select any one to four essential oils, fragrances or flavors to customize your Ooh La La sugar scrub. The brand has options such as mango, pineapple, honey, lavender, coconut and more. You can even add in activated charcoal for a small extra fee.
So far I am loving this scrub. My skin looks and feels good (except my hands – they are always dry regardless of what I use).
This body body is really thick. A little bit goes a long way.
I would recommend using this body butter as soon as you step out of the shower/bath, when you skin is still damp. I think the dampness helps it to absorb better into your skin. Otherwise it will take a bit before it fully absorbs. That is because it contains Raw Shea Butter, Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Golden Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E and Vanilla Oil. These are great, natural ingredients. They also take a wee bit to absorb into the skin. It’s only natural (it has nothing to do with the brand or product).
Your customized Ooh La La Body Butter & Moisturizing Cream is a creamy butter that melts into your skin leaving a silky feel and a youthful glow. A moisturizing cream created with God’s finest ingredients.
Just like with the sugar scrub, you can customize your body butter with one to four essential oils, fragrances and flavors (by flavors they mean scent – not to consume the product).
This product could be used on your hair, but I have not tried that. I don’t think I will. It might be too heavy on my thick, course hair.
The essential oils and scents are the same as the ones for the sugar scrub, so you can create a matching set (scrub and body butter). This would also make a great, customizable gift.
You can also state the intensity of the scent(s) you want, and if you prefer mild, medium or strong degrees of scent. Additionally, do you want one essential oil, fragrance or flavor to be more or less dominant.
With the body butter you can also add additional oils, as well as collagen.
