Have you ever seen the film Peggy Sue Got Married, staring Kathleen Turner and Nicolas Cage? If not, you are missing out on a fun movie.
Peggy Sue Got Married was first released back in 1986 (when I graduated high school!). It has now been re-released and is now available on Blu-ray.
Peggy Sue Got Married stars Kathleen Turner as Peggy Sue. Peggy Sue is attending her 25th high school reunion. Life has not turned out as well as she hoped. She is married with children but her marriage is on the rocks.
While at her reunion Peggy Sue wonders what life would be like if she did things differently in her youth. If she had the chance to go back in time and change things – would she? She wonders about what her life would be if she didn’t married her high school sweetheart Charlie (Nicolas Cage). She soon finds out when an accident at the reunion causes Peggy Sue to travel back in time to her teenage years.
Traveling back in time gives Peggy Sue a chance to change the course of her life. It also brings her back to the people in her life that she has missed dearly, like talking to her grandmother on the phone.
Will Peggy Sue find a way to change the course of her life now that she’s given the opportunity, or will she realize that her life was exactly as it was meant to be? To find out you need to pick up a copy of Peggy Sue Got Married, now available on Blu-ray where ever movies are sold.
This is not an Academy Award winning film, but it’s a fun and entertaining film nonetheless. I love how they recreated the 50’s with the Poodle Skirts and Do Wop songs.
Kathleen Turner does a great job as Peggy Sue, although she doesn’t age a bit in the film. The young Peggy Sue and the older Peggy Sue look identical. Nicolas Cage ages a wee bit in the film.
Nicolas Cage’s character (Charlie Bodell) is a bit over the top at times. But when does Nicolas Cage play “ordinary” characters?
Peggy Sue Got Married was directed by Frances Ford Coppola and his daughter Sophia plays a part in the film too (Nancy, Peggy Sue’s younger sister). When you think France Ford Coppola you think epic films like Godfather, Apocalypse Now and American Graffiti. Peggy Sue Got Married seems like an odd ball kind of movie for a man who has directed and produced some of the most well known movies ever made.
Peggy Sue Got Married was released on Blu-ray by RLJ/Image Entertainment. Oddly enough there are no bonus features. I was hoping for a behind the scenes look at the film or maybe even a “Where are they now” clip. It would be fun to see the characters and what they look like now.
I know some people roll their eyes when they think about this film. Personally I have always enjoyed this film. I think it’s quirky and fun and I like the idea of going back in time and doing things differently if given the opportunity.
If you had a chance to go back in time like Peggy Sue did, would you do anything differently? If so, what would that be?
Here is the film’s trailer for your enjoyment.
