I am a firm believer that everyone should have a first aid kit. It doesn’t matter if you are single, married, have children or have grandchildren… you should always have basic first aid items on hand at all times. If you can keep them in both your home and vehicle that it even better.
Some basics include;
- Antibiotic ointment
- Antiseptic solution or towelettes
- Bandages, including a roll of elastic wrap and bandage strips in assorted sizes
- Instant cold packs
- Cotton balls and cotton-tipped swabs
- Disposable latex or synthetic gloves, at least two pair
- Gauze pads and roller gauze in assorted sizes
- First-aid manual
- Plastic bags for the disposal of contaminated materials
There are plenty of other great products you could include, but as long as you have most of the basics you should be OK when faced with a medical emergency.
Are you a pet owner? If so, do you have a first aid kit for your pet? It is recommended by most pet agencies, including the Humane Society, to keep a pet first aid kit on hand if you have pets in your home. If you travel a lot with your pet you should keep one in your car as well.
Many sites carry first aid kits specific to pets. You can also purchase a “human” first aid kit and then add some pet specific products to it.
Many of the above mentioned supplies are helpful in case of pet emergencies too (except bandage strips – they might not stick to fur).
As a “mom” to five cats and a dog I can tell you first hand that bumps, cuts and scratches happen. Our dog has had to have scratches taken care of when he plays too rough with our cats. He’ll keep going at them, even if they don’t want to be bothered anymore. To get rid of him they will scratch at him, most of the time getting him in the nose. You would think he learned his lesson but he usually keeps bothering them. Silly dog!
The last thing I want is to have to rush our dog to the vet to take care of the scratch. My vet bills are huge as it is with an asthmatic cat and a diabetic cat. At the same time I don’t want to leave the scratches unattended to because I don’t want them to get infected. The cats use the litter box and I don’t need any bacteria or germs from their nails getting into our dog’s body and cause a nasty infection. That is why I always make sure to wash off the scratch right away and apply antiseptic when needed.
Once our eldest cat had a cyst burst open under his chin and there was blood everywhere. It happened late at night and we were unable to get to the 24 hour animal hospital right away. I had to wash it off right away (as well as all the blood that was all over him) and sterilize the area as best as possible. Thank goodness I had ample first aid supplies on hand to tend to it (he ended up having surgery to remove it).
In addition to a basic first aid kit I would also like to recommend the following products;
- Wound Care Spray Wash
- Wound Care Spray Gel
- Ear Care Rinse
- Eye Car Wash
Dr. Emmo’s carries a line of pet car products (all the products mentioned above). Unlike human first aid products that are similar, Dr. Emmo’ s products are non-toxic and antibiotic-free which means they are safe to use with pets who might lick at the product. You wouldn’t want to apply human products that can be toxic and lethal to pets if digested. They are also formula eliminates wound odors too.
All of Dr. Emmo’s first aid products use a highly effective and safe technology to fight infections that can be caused by bacteria, viruses and fungi pathogens. Dr. Emmo’s technology works in the same way that a pets immune system works to seek out pathogens and then surround and kill them using Hypochlorous acid (HOCL). Dr. Emmo’s first aid products deliver a safe and highly effective level of HOCL at optimal pH levels to effectively kill pathogens and prevent the health risk that they can cause.
I have the entire line of Dr. Emmo’s pet first aid products in my home for my pets. I haven’t had the opportunity to use them yet (thankfully!). I am happy that I do have them just in case an emergency does transpire.
I have Dr. Emmo’s Wound Care Spray and Wound Care Gel.
Dr. Emmo’s Wound Care Spray Wash is intended to be the first of a two-step process for the treatment of pets with minor cuts, scrapes and skin irritations. This fine cleansing spray works to thoroughly rinse, remove and flush bacteria in all minor pet wounds. The second step in this wound care system is the application of Wound Care Spray Gel to the wound site. This easy to apply gel with its viscous formulation is intended to stick to the wound site, keeping the wound clean and protected throughout the healing process.
These are the types of products I would use for our dog when our cats scratch him. A spray would be easier to apply. I also like that the gel intentionally sticks to the wound to help it heal rather than absorb into the skin or dry up after a few minutes.
I would never think to use an ear wash. I assume since my pets are indoor pets that they wouldn’t have any issues with their ears. I didn’t know that they can get a wax build up, just like humans. They can also get irritations.
My pets eyes are also not something that I would think of when it came to first aid. Just like humans, pets can get eye irritations too, especially from dust, smoke and cleaning supplies. I SHOULD know that since these are the same things that irritate our asthmatic cat and cause her to have an attack. I guess because I don’t visually see an issue I just ASSUME her eyes, and ears, are OK.
The Ear Care Rinse offers immediate relief to wax build up and pesky irritations of the ear. Dr. Emmo’s Eye Care Wash is an antibiotic-free formulation designed as a “one-step”, all-natural, topical eye care rinse for use in all animal eyes. It relieves eye irritation, burning, scratching while killing 99.9% of bacteria/germs.
Honestly, would you think to include these kinds of products in your pet’s first aid kit? Do you even have a kit?
Dr. Emmo’s motto is Be Prepared Everywhere. You never know when or where a pet emergency can occur. Don’t get caught empty handed. Make sure you have first aid products available for your pet.
If you don’t have a pet first aid kit now is a great time to make one because Dr. Emmo’s is offering 20% off their products.
“We believe that these are four products that every pet owner should have in their first aid kit and that is why we are making this promotional offer to everyone that visits our website,” added Shay.
To take advantage of this special offer visit the Dr. Emmo’s website, www.DrEmmos.com. Add the items you want to purchase into your shopping cart and upon checkout enter in the code “Scout1” to receive a full 20% discount on your entire order.

I don’t have any first aid options for my cat right now and to be honest, I didn’t even think about what would happen if he did need some basic care for a little scratch or small wound – I guess I just assumed I’d take him to the vet but this seems like a smarter, much cheaper option. I’d love a kit like this for my cat – he is an indoor cat but that doesn’t mean he can’t cut himself or hurt himself inside.
