My hair used to be my pride and joy. I used to have VERY thick, luscious hair. It’s also naturally wavy. My hair dresser when I was in my teens/early 20’s used to refer to my hair as a “lion’s mane.” Sadly, perms (back in the day), years of coloring my hair, age and other factors have turned my once beautiful head of hair to something completely opposite to what it once was. Sigh…
My hair is still very important to me, so I try and use only the best hair care products possible to ensure it’s well cared for. I am also very open to trying out products from brands I am not familiar with. It’s a great way to discover new products that can make my hair look and feel the best way possible.
A few weeks ago I was introduced to the brand Peter Coppola.
Peter Coppola is a woman-owned company named after the famous stylist who developed keratin systems, Peter Coppola®. Peter Coppola® started (and still kills it) with keratin treatments but has now expanded into the Legacy Collection with aftercare for luxurious at-home use. The brand uses gentle color-safe formulas, offers excellent detanglers, intensive moisturizing treatments, as well as removing yellow tones from bleached or highlighted hair.
Here is some additional information about the brand and it’s products.

- It is 100% free of formaldehyde and aldehydes and safe for all hair types.
- Hairstylists and consumers turn to the expert brand of salon-inspired products to properly care for hair and protect their salon investment.
- Founded in 2013, Peter Coppola® started with keratin treatments and expanded into the Legacy Collection with aftercare for luxurious at-home use.
- Products like the Total Repair Smoothing Duo(shampoo and conditioner) and the Brightest Blonde Bundle can be used interchangeably to create a unique care and styling experience.
- The perfect one-stop-shop for all your hair care needs whether it’s to maintain frizz, the perfect blowout, repair damaged hair, keep color-treated hair vibrant, and more.
The brand was kind enough to send me a few products to try out for myself. I received free to review their Color Control Shampoo, Color Control Conditioner and Total Repair Soothing Hair Mask for Textured, Curly or Frizz-Prone Hair.
There are different types of products from the Peter Coppola brand. Some products are a bit pricier than others. The products I receive to review are affordable and available at places such as CVS, Walmart, Amazon and Paramount Beauty.
Currently I am in dire need of getting my hair colored. I go to a salon rather than do it at home (it lasts longer). My roots can verify that I really need to get it done ASAP. Unexpected vet bills took away from my hair coloring funds, so it’s going to be a few more weeks.
I specifically use product that are safe for color treated hair. The last thing I want to do is spend a small fortune to get my hair colored, only to use products to make it fade out a few short weeks later. The longer I can hold on to the color, the better for my wallet (ha ha).
I cannot comment on how well the Peter Coppola shampoo and conditioner works as far as retaining hair color, but I can share my thoughts on how the products made my hair feel.
According to the brand in regards to the Color Control Shampoo and Color Control Conditioner;
- Sulfate-Free Formula
- Protects color treated hair, leaving it ravishingly radiant with a brilliant shine
- Helps prolong the life and vibrancy of hair color
- Restores hair to its optimum health
- Protects against harsh environmental stresses including heat styling, UV rays and pollutants
- Extends the life of all in-salon keratin treatments
- Keratin and Ceramides build strength and retain moisture
- Prevents color fade
- Restores the natural moisture balance of dry and over-processed hair
- Organic oils smooth and strengthen
You don’t need a lot of the shampoo to get a good cleaning. A little bit goes a long way. It washes well and rinses out completely. I find a shampoo that rinses out completely to be important to me, I don’t know why. I think it’s because I don’t like the idea of anything being left behind after I wash my hair. I also don’t want to spend a long time trying to fully rinse my hair after I wash it.
A good conditioner is a MUST for me. I MUST have a conditioner that truly does feel like it’s conditioning my hair. I need added moisture do to the coarseness of my hair.
Initially I wasn’t sure if this conditioner gave me enough moisturizing, but after repeated use it grew on me. I do think it’s providing me with an ample amount of moisturizing. My hair looks and feels really good after using both products together.
I like that these products are affordable compared to similar options. I have spent over $30+ on other conditioners (I don’t spend as much on a shampoo as I do a conditioner). The Peter Coppola Color Control Conditioner is a great affordable option.
I use a hair mask often (usually every other time I wash my hair). Perhaps I don’t need to that frequently, but I feel like hair masks provide my hair with my moisturizer and helps my hair look and feel soft and healthy.
According to the brand, the Peter Coppola Total Repair Hair Mask;
- Instantly mends and softens dry hair
- Penetrates the hair shaft with moisture
- Delivers soft, touchable, bouncy, shiny hair from roots to ends
- Keratin and Ceramides build strength and retain moisture
To use, after you shampoo your hair, work the mask into your hair and leave it on for 3-5 minutes, then rinse out. For more intense conditioning you can place your hair under a dryer and leave it on for 20 minutes (I don’t have time for that, even if I wanted to).
I will wash my hair as soon as I step into the shower, rinse, then add the mask. That way it has time to work it’s “magic” while I wash my face and body, shave and do whatever else I need to do. That 5 minutes flies by quickly that way.
I LOVE this mask. It rinses out completely and doesn’t leave behind any residue or heaviness. I love that it helps to get the knots out of my hair too. Often when I wash my hair there are knots in it when I brush/comb it out. This mask helps to get rid of the knots (occasionally there will be a small one). The less tugging on my hair the better.
This products leave my hair looking and feeling wonderful, so much so I tend to run my fingers through my hair often after using it.
I feel like my hair needs less styling too. I almost always let my hair air dry, then use a rounded hairdryer brush/wand to smooth out the frizzy parts. There is only one area where I still need to use that when I use this product (my hair stylist said it’s due to coloring my hair and just needs to grow so it can be cut off). The less time doing my hair the better. With the hot and humid summer months fast approaching, the last thing I want to do is stand in the bathroom with heat products and make myself feel hot and sweaty. Not only that, heat is not always the best thing for your hair when you are trying to keep it healthy.
So far I am really liking the products. I would definitely purchase the mask again when I am finished with the tube that I have.
