Anyone who knows me personally knows how much I adore our dog and our five cats. They are very much an important part of our family. I can’t imagine life without them.
Some people think we’re crazy to have so many pets. Not us. Each one of our pets has it’s own personality and each and every one of them makes us happy and brings us joy in their own unique way.
Our cat Kitty is the “greeter” of the family. It doesn’t matter who shows up at our door she is always the first animal to greet you. Unlike the others she’s not shy. She’s always rubbing up against people – including the plumber or anyone who comes over to do work on our home.
Velcro is our oldest cat. He was named after the sound he made when you peeled him off the side of the furniture. Ha Ha. Velcro is afraid of his own shadow (and that is not an exaggeration). He tends to keep to himself but he does like to make his presence known. For example, at night he moves the water dish (filled with water no less) across the kitchen floor. He’s the only one that does it. He also tends to want to play when it’s dark. Many nights I’ve walked across the room (in the dark) only to have Velcro run across the room and attack my feet (playfully of course). He’s just a big “mush”. 🙂
PadmĂ© (pronounced Pad-May) is the sweetest, most lovely-dovey cat. She’s afraid of strangers and will run and hide. But for our family she’s very affectionate. She used to sit on my shoulders when I was at my desk. She just got too big and can’t do that anymore. PadmĂ© is a true “lap cat”. She will happily sit on your lap and let you pet her. She loves to be loved.
Anakin is the same age (only he’s a month older) than our dog Espn. Anakin and Espn are best friends. Anakin is named after a Star Wars character. We call him Annie for short. He’s the comedian of the group. He’s always doing goofy things to make us laugh. He also hates when people sneeze. If you sneeze he will meow. He also holds conversations with us. Sometimes if you talk to him he will meow back to you as if he’s holding a conversation with you. It’s the funniest thing.
Bella is the baby of the group. She just turned a year old last month. She’s the spoiled Princess. She’s very attached to me. She loves to “suckle” on my clothing, especially my nightgowns. She will hop into bed with me and just start sucking away on my nightgown, as if she’s nursing. We raised her since she was a day old so she never had a mother to nurse with. I’m the only “mom” she ever had. Sometimes she wants to suckle on things. If it’s not my nightgown it’s this red fuzzy blanket my husband keeps on his chair. She’ll bite onto it and fluff it up with her paws and go into some weird little trace.
Then there is Espn. I know I have written about our dog many times on my blog. He gets along so well with our cats. He’s like their big brother in a way.
