I don’t mind cooking meals from scratch when I have the time (and desire) to do so. As a busy mom I often have to resort to quick and easy meals. The simpler the better. I try and use shortcuts whenever possible too.
My mom and mother in law were not ones to use shortcuts – ever. My mother in law would make “gravy” (pasta sauce) by the gallons every Sunday from scratch. She would often give all her kids huge containers full of it so that it could be used for dishes throughout the week.
My mom used to make mashed potatoes and French Fries from scratch. She’s wash each and every potato, cut it up and either fry it for French Fries or painstakingly boils and mash them up for mashed potatoes. Not me! I have made mashed potatoes from scratch before and it’s a long, boring process. That is why I use pre-made potatoes. It makes my life so much easier.
I love sweet potatoes. Most people associate them with Thanksgiving or the holiday season. My family happens to love them year round. They are a bit easier to “mash” than white potatoes because they are usually soft after you bake them for a while.
I recently had the chance to try Simply Potatoes Sweet Potatoes. WOW! Talk about easy. I just had to microwave the container until the potatoes were heated and serve. That’s it!
I did add some cinnamon and butter to the Sweet Potatoes. I was going to add marshmallows too but I didn’t have any on hand.
The Sweet Potatoes is available in two sizes, one of which being family size. I had the regular size container and it was more than enough for a family of four.
Doesn’t that bowl of Sweet Potatoes look yummy? Mmm… I could go for some right now myself.
It was nice having fresh tasting mashed Sweet Potatoes ready and on the table in a matter of minutes. No peeling. No boiling or baking. No mashing. Simply pop in the microwave, heat it up and you are ready to enjoy.
Simply Potatoes is available in a variety of flavors including traditional mashed potatoes, garlic mashed potatoes, sour cream and chives mashed potatoes, diced potatoes with onions, red potato wedges and several more varieties.
Another Simply Potatoes that I tried out with my family was the Shredded Hashbrowns. I served them up with some corn beef and fried eggs. Just like the Sweet Potatoes they were ready to enjoy in a matter of minutes.
I should use hashbrowns as side dishes for dinner time meals more often. I don’t see why they should only be enjoyed with breakfast or brunch.
Simply Potatoes are made fresh so they taste fresh when you prepare them. Dare I say you might even get away with letting people think you made them from scratch. 🙂
Simply Potatoes are not only great as side dishes, but they can also be incorporated into recipes too.
