I was going to change the subject line for this post but I figured if my readers saw something in another language it would intrigue them enough to want to read more. For the record Talenti Gelato e Sorbetto is Italian for Talenti Gelato and Sorbet. Delizioso is the Italian word for delicious.
I have never tried Gelato before. I have tried sorbets and I tend to order them more so over ice cream if they are offered as a dessert at a restaurant. When sorbets are not available I usually go for sherbets. I am lactose intolerant to some degree. I can eat cheese and yogurt, I just can’t drink milk or eat more then a few spoonfuls of ice cream. Otherwise I have an upset tummy. That is why I usually go for the sorbets and sherbets since they are not made with milk.
My husband is 100% Italian. His grandparents on both sides came from Italy (Naples). His family tree has been traced back to Sicily. However I think I am MORE Italian then my husband and I’m technically a “mutt” (Welsh, Norwegian and Irish). I even know a few words and lines in Italian and the only thing my husband knows is “ciao” and a few “choice” words he over heard his father use when he was younger (ha ha).
Gelato is an Italian dessert that dates back to ancient times. It’s different then ice cream because it has a lower butterfat then ice cream, but a higher sugar content. Gelato won’t freeze solid like ice cream will. It remains creamy and smooth straight from the freezer.
Sorbet is another Italian dessert that is made with sweetened water and either fruit (juice or puree), wine or liquor.
I was offered the opportunity to try some Gelato and Sorbet from a company called Talenti. Needless to say I jumped at the opportunity. I was excited to try the Gelato.
Talenti sent me a pint of Sea Salt Caramel, Double Dark Chocolate, Tahitian Vanilla Bean (Gelatos) and Roman Raspberry (Sorbet). There was no way I was going to wait to try them. I had a spoon in my hand as I was opening the box! And no, I’m not kidding either. LOL!
OH-MY-GOODNESS!!!! I am IN LOVE! I am madly, head-over-heels IN LOVE with the Talenti Gelato and Sorbet. I think once you try a Gelato or Sorbet like this you’ll never be able to go back to regular ice cream or sherbet. No way!
I’ll go through each one and give you my thoughts.
Sea Salt Caramel – I was a little concerned about this actually being too salty. I have had Sea Salt Caramels before and sometimes they are too salty and it ruins the taste. The Talenti Sea Salt Caramel Gelato contains what appears to be chocolate covered caramel chunks throughout the Gelato. The taste is something truly amazing. It tastes EXACTLY like a caramel. You cannot sense that it’s an “ice cream” type dessert. If I put a spoonful in your mouth while you were wearing a blindfold, based on the taste and texture, you would truly believe that I gave you a spoonful of caramel. You don’t even realize it’s cold. It’s thick and creamy just like caramel. Every time I put some in my mouth I am amazed how UN-“ice cream” like it tastes. It’s not a frozen dessert – it’s chilled caramel!
Double Dark Chocolate – Needless to say this is the first pint of Gelato that magically disappeared. LOL! It tastes like a gourmet quality chocolate mousse. It has a smooth and light texture, complimented with tiny dark chocolate pieces sprinkled throughout. This is NOT your typical chocolate dessert. This is something so much more. With the first spoonful I was hooked.
Tahitian Vanilla Bean – I’m not one to go for vanilla desserts. Vanilla just seems so plain and boring. I rarely ever order a vanilla frozen treat, nor do I eat vanilla ice cream at home. If I do I like to pair it up with something to jazz it up a bit. After trying the Tahitian Vanilla Bean I will never again think of Vanilla as a boring flavor. The Tahitian Vanilla Bean Gelato is amazing! It’s speckled with bits of vanilla bean too. It even smells delicious. You don’t need to add a thing to this Vanilla gelato except a spoon!
Roman Raspberry Sorbet – My kids were not fond of this flavor for some odd reason. My husband doesn’t like Raspberries to begin with so he wouldn’t even try it. If you love the taste of fresh from the bush raspberries then you are going to LOVE the Roman Raspberry Sorbet. It’s very sweet and “packs a punch” so to speak. It takes like fresh raspberries. It’s as if you picked them, pureed them and then popped it in the freezer to give it a bit of a chill, all in the same day. It tastes THAT fresh! Sherbet is boring compared to this sorbet. They are not even in the same league! This sorbet is head and shoulders above other sorbets and sherbets I have enjoyed.
Talenti Gelatos also come in flavors like Argentine Dulce de Leche, Belgium Milk Chocolate, Caramel Cookie Crunch, Caribbean Coconut, Cappuccino, Mediterranean Mint, Sicilian Pistachio, Toasted Almond, White Chocolate Raspberry and Black Berry. The sorbets are available in Lisbon Lemon, Sonoma Strawberry, Blood Orange and Hill Country Peach Champagne. Even the flavors sound amazing!
THANKFULLY Talenti Gelatos and Sorbets are available at many grocery stores across the country. One one store carries them near me. I haven’t looked for them as of yet but the next time I am there I am going to see if I can find them. Otherwise I will have to order them online and the shipping is out of this world (nearly $30 to ship one $8 pint). You can purchase Talenti products at www.IceCreamSource.com. There is a store locator on their website, TalentiGelato.com.
Talenti Gelato and Sorbets also come in these awesome see through containers with screw top lids. I’m going to save mine. I’m sure I can find a lot of great uses for them. On their Facebook page I saw people use them as planters, to hold spices and herbs, piggy banks, pencil holders, food storage containers and one person even uses the container for their dentures. Eww! LOL!

Talenti is also having a cute photo contest called the Cutest Gelato Photo where the grand prize winner will receive a FREE year supply (four pints per month) of Talenti Gelatos and Sorbets ($250 value). The contest started on July 25th and ends on September 12, 2011, but you need to have the photos submitted by no later then September 2, 2011 (I would suggest the sooner the better). Each week there will be fan voting and one entry will be considered a semi-finalist. On September 5th all of the semi-finalists will be posted and the fan votes will determine the winner which will be announced on September 12, 2011. If you have a lot of friends, family members and co-workers you can rally them to vote for your photo submission.
Talenti is looking for cute pictures of children enjoying the frozen treat. I even saw a photo of adults and a dog too.
Visit the Talenti Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/Love.Talenti, to learn more about the photo contest and to check out the entries. While you are there read some of the comments left by some of their 12,000+ Facebook fans. I’m not the only one who is crazy about Talenti Gelatos and Sorbets. One lady posted on the Facebook wall that she drove an hour each way just to stock up on her family’s favorite flavors.
If you have tried Talenti products before I’m sure you are going to want to hurry up and enter the photo contest. I’m going to try and enter. I MUST win a year supply! LOL! I can see that I am going to become addicted to this stuff. If you have not tried Talenti yet you’ll want to. Winning a year supply of this amazing, mouth watering treat would certainly be the perfect way to explore the many flavors Talenti has to offer.
All this writing about Talenti I need to take a trip to my freezer. I need a “hit” of Talenti! LOL!
