Now playing in theaters, as well as On Demand, is the horror film, The Bell Keeper.
The Bell Keeper stars Randy Couture (The Expendables), Kathleen Kenny (“The Sex Lives of College Girls”), Reid Miller (Joe Bell), Mike Manning (“Days of Our Lives”), Bonnie Aarons (The Nun), and Chaz Bono (“American Horror Story”).
The Bell Keeper is the story of a group of friends who set out in their brother’s RV to visit supposedly haunted locations across the country to do a feature story about them. The first stop on their “tour” is a place called Bell Lake. Bell Lake has been the site of many murders and disappearances.
It is alleged that if you ring the bell found at Bell Lake, a murderous man will appear and kill you for no other reason.
The friends didn’t expect to actually witness a murder, or become the victims themselves, by ringing the bell they found at Bell Lake. Instead they were hoping to debunk the urban legend and move on to the next haunted location. They were wrong. Very wrong.
The legend of Bell Lake is not a myth. It’s the real deal, and the friends find out the hard way when they find themselves being hunted down by the mysterious man who is said to kill those who ring the bell.

Will any of them live to see the morning? Who is the man that kills people who ring the bell? What is the significance of ringing the bell? To find out, you’ll need to check out the film, The Bell Keeper. Look for it in theaters and On Demand.
I am a die hard horror movie fan, so it takes a lot to impress me. With that being said, I was entertained by this film. I personally didn’t find it scary, but I also didn’t find The Exorcist or The Shining scary, so that says a lot about my “bravery” when it comes to horror movies.
This film isn’t entirely a horror movie either. There are some humorous parts sprinkled in here and there. It’s like a horror/comedy in a way. No matter how it’s defined, I was still entertained from beginning to end. There were a few times I felt that it was getting boring, but then something would happen to pick up the pace again.
For those of you sensitive to horror movies, junk scares and a lot of blood… then let it be known you were forewarned because this film has those elements.
The acting for the most part was decent. I am not familiar with any of the actors except Chaz Bono, whom I was surprised to see. I didn’t even realize he was in the film until he made his first appearance.
My favorite character was the stoner little brother Liam. He’s the one that brought a touch of comedy to the film, which I think the film needed. If it was a straight horror movie it might not have been as entertaining.

I didn’t know that the character of Hank was played by a UFC fighter (Randy Couture). I noticed that Hank’s ear looked malformed. I thought maybe I missed something in the film explaining that. I didn’t realize it was “cauliflower ear” which wrestlers and boxers sometimes develop.
There were a few “holes” in the story line here and there, but nothing too noticeable.
Overall I did enjoy the film. Normally I find most horror movies just plain silly and not even entertaining. This film did have silly parts, but over all I liked it. It was a nice change of pace from other horror films I’ve seen lately.
Look for The Bell Keeper in a theater near you or On Demand.
The film has a run time of approx. 90 minutes. I am not sure of the rating, but I would guess it to be “R” due to the horror and gore.
