The longest-running theatrical release in film history is celebrating it’s 40th Anniversary this year – do you know what film it is? I’ll give you some hints – Its a cult phenomenon. It has an awesome soundtrack. It has it’s own dance and it stars Tim Curry in sexy lingerie.
Do you know which film it is? If you guessed The Rock Horror Picture Show then you are 100% correct. Of course seeing the image (above) sort of gave the answer away. LOL!
I can’t believe the film is 40 years old. Oh by, do I feel OLD!
I didn’t actually see the film until the 1990 (it was released in 1975). The guy I was dating at the time took me to see the film at a midnight showing in a local theater. I had never seen, or heard, of the movie until that point.
While waiting online I was shocked by the costumes that people at the theater were wearing. Why in the world were they wearing costumes to see a movie? It didn’t make sense to me until the movie started.
I found it very odd, but yet entertaining, when people would shout out at the screen and toss things in the air. I was totally blown away during the song “Time Warp” when people in the audience got out of their seats, filled the aisle, and danced along to the characters on screen, all while singing along.
After the movie I could see why people enjoyed going to see it in theaters. It was a lot of fun, especially because it’s so interactive. I ended up going to see the film in theaters a few more times, each time participating along with everyone else (except getting dressed up in costume).
I have a relative name Janet because of this movie every time someone says her name I automatically think “Damn it!” You would have to had seen the film to know what I am referring to.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a bit “trippy,” and not for everyone.
The film stars Barry Bostwick (who used to live down the street from me) and Susan Sarandon as Brad and Janet. Their car broke down in the rain one night and they went for a walk in hopes of finding help. That is when they came across a creepy mansion owned by Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry). Dr. Frank-N-Furter invites them in, but not to get help. Instead they get mixed up in his crazy world including his creepy helpers, a dead biker (singer Meat Loaf) and his special creation – his own man he named “Rocky.”
I give Tim Curry all the credit in the world for wearing heels, lingerie and makeup throughout the film. That took some guts.
This film has an amazing soundtrack. I love all the songs in the film. Even as I write this the songs are streaming through my head.
Like I said, this film might not be for everyone. I guess you can say it’s an “acquired taste.” Some people might be turned off by all the sexual innuendos and total weirdness of the film.
For those who do like this film you know how incredibly fun and entertaining it can be.My friends and I often quote lines from the movie too.

I wanted a copy of this film to check out the bonus features. I love “behind the scenes” looks at films because I feel that they give viewers a better understanding and appreciation for a film when they know how much went on behind the scenes to bring the film to life.
The deleted musical scenes were interesting. I wish they would have kept them in the film. I enjoyed them.
The black and white opening was interesting too. I’m glad they stuck with color.
This is THE Blu-ray/DVD set to have for any fan of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. This would make a great gift – especially with the holiday season fast approaching.
Below is a trailer for the film for your enjoyment.
