I love scents. All kinds of scents. I love the smell of hot apple cider, lilacs, freshly baked cookies, the ocean and fresh cut grass to name a few.
As I type this I am using my new Scentbug from Bath & Body Works with some Lavender & Vanilla scented oil. It smells really nice. It actually reminds me of a baby. It sort of reminds me of baby powder or some kind of a baby product. Its nice and subtle and I find it rather relaxing.
Bath & Body Works used to sell my MOST FAVORITE scented oil – EVER! But I don’t think they have it anymore. Its their Christmas Tree scented oil. It was the ONLY scented product that I have ever come across the actually smelled like a real Christmas tree.
I have always had an artificial tree, sad to say. Growing up my sister, who is 8 years older, used to put the tree together and decorate it. Basically it was HER tree and no one could decorate it in anyway. It always made me sad because I wanted to decorate a tree too.
When I was around 10 (give or take) my Mom took me out to buy a REAL Christmas tree. The artificial tree (the “main” tree where the presents were left) was in the formal living room. The real tree went in the playroom/family room. The real tree was MY tree. My Mom gave me my own ornaments, my own tree skirt and everything needed to decorate my special tree. She didn’t skimp either. My tree was usually in the 5′ – 6′ range.
Even though it was my special tree and I could decorate it myself, it wasn’t as special as spending time with my Mom. Just me and my Mom would go out and find the tree for the playroom. No one else went with us.
The scent of real Christmas tree brings back many memories to me. Mostly it reminds me of my Mom and the special time we’d spend together.
My mom passed away almost 8 years ago (she died a few days after Christmas). You can see why the Christmas tree scent means a lot to me.
Over the past few decades (or for as long as I can remember) I have been on a quest to find something that can give me that real Christmas tree scent. I don’t care if its an oil, candle, air freshener… it doesn’t matter. As long as it smells like the real thing.
A few years ago I stumbled across the Christmas tree oil for the hot oil burner sold at Bath & Body Works. It was the closest thing to a real Christmas tree I have ever come across. I would try and stock up on it whenever I could afford it (at $7.50 each its easier said then done). I would use it the entire holiday season so I went through a lot of oil.
Last year I couldn’t find it. I did find something called Evergreen but it doesn’t even come close. I see a few Christmas tree oils on Ebay but I have had a few bad experiences on Ebay over the years so I’m a bit jaded and rather not waste money on something that is bogus or get taken by a rotten seller.
Since I have a lot of readers (thank you!) I am curious to know if anyone has come across something that truly smells like a REAL Christmas tree? I don’t care if its an oil, candle, spray, freshener…it doesn’t matter. As long as it smells like a tree I’m happy.
I would love to know if anyone has ever found anything that smells like REAL Lilacs too? Lilacs is another smell that brings back special memories from when I was a child. I have never found anything even remotely close to a real Lilac scent.
Since I truly enjoy candles, fresheners, oils and the like if you happen to know of a store, online or offline, that carries amazing “must have” scents, I would LOVE to hear about them too. I’m always on the look out for great places to shop. I have tried Yankee Candles. They smell lovely in the jar but when I light them they don’t really have much of a scent for some odd reason. Since they are rather pricey I would certainly love to them to have same scent or even close to it when lit.
I love other scents too like baby power, apple, cinnamon, fresh cut grass and many more. Plus I am always open to try different ones.
I love to make my home smell warm and inviting or clean and fresh. I like to use a different scents every few days. During the Fall I like scents like apples, cinnamon and spices. During the holiday season I love the scent of a real Christmas tree, peppermint and “wintery” scents. In the spring and summer I like scents like ocean, Rose, Lilacs, to name a few.
If you have a source or know of a store that you are blown away by their amazing scented products PLEASE let me know about them. If you make your own scents, or know how I can re-create the Christmas tree scent in my home, I would love to hear from you as well.
Thanks so much!
Kimberly

I’ll be interested in the comments from others. I also loved the Bath and Body Works “Tree” scent and was so disappointed when it was replaced. We live in the country and are able to go out and cut fresh cedar boughs to scent the house at Christmastime. I still like the piney tree scent though.
I’ve tried the Scentsy “Lilacs and Violets” scent and it’s pretty nice, although not a pure lilac scent. My birthday falls in the spring when the lilacs are in bloom; that scent always reminds me of my mom cutting fresh lilacs to put on the table for my birthday dinner. Interesting how certain scents remind us of our mothers, although I’m lucky enough to still have mine with us.

I too was so sad when B&B discontinued the “Tree” scent. That was my all time favorite and B&B was the only store I’ve found that had an “authentic” scent. I’ve got a couple of candles and 2 or 3 bottles of oil hoarded back.
What wonderful memories you have of your mom!

Christmas? Christmas? Did someone mention Christmas? The smell of evergreen or pine? Oh my favorite time of year, and just another cool reason the different smells. Cinnamon, peppermint, and so many others. I live near a candle factory (2 blocks away), so we’re always trying to guess what they’re making. The whole neighborhood just reeks of mulberry or french vanilla, it’s wonderful.

I asked a salesperson at B&BW about that sent a while back! She brought me to “fresh balsam” saying it’s the ceo (or someone higher up’s) favorite sent. I smelled it and it was close, but definitely not the same, although I admit I purchased it anyways! (Tip:We always buy a couple of green clips and clip it onto our fake tree!) When I read the Christmas tree a couple years ago, it said it was the perfect combination of vanilla, pine, and a few other smells to make it what it was! I would give ANYTHING to have it back!

BBW has Tree Wallflower refills on their site right now. It looks like last year’s packaging, so it’s probably just what they have left. I know I’m stocking up! http://tinyurl.com/27ntbg5
