I feel very fortunate that I am able to provide my children with healthy and nutritious meals. I make it my #1 priority that my children get ample amounts of fiber, fruits, veggies, water, protein and everything else their young bodies need. I also make sure my children take a multi-vitamin every day to make sure that they get all the vitamins and minerals they need.
I know that in many parts of the world, as well as our own “backyard”, there are children who go without nutritious meals. I cannot imagine these innocent children going to bed starving every night and begging their parents for something to eat to fight off the hunger pains they feel. That is horrible and no child should have to deal with that – ever!
The hunger problem across the globe not only means that children are starving but it also means that children are not getting the vital vitamins and minerals their bodies need to function properly.
Did you know that one third of all childhood deaths are caused by children who are not getting enough vital nutrition?
Did you know that an estimated 190 million children suffer from vitamin A deficiency worldwide?
Those statistics break my heart and make me sick to my stomach. But there is a hope. There is a simple, cost-effective Vitamin A caopsule that can be taken every six month that helps to prevent things like blindness and can reduce under-five mortality by 23 percent.
Whole Foods Market’s current podcast shares the story of Vitamin Angels (http://www.VitaminAngels.org), an organization that is profoundly changing the life’s of children around the world by connecting children under five with vital nutrients they need to survive and thrive.
To help raise awareness of Vitamin Angels, Whole Foods Market will donate $1.00 for the first 5,000 people to share their thoughts in response to the Viva Vitamin Angels podcast they recently did on their site.

My comment: I had never heard of this organization, Vitamin Angels and think it has a remarkable mission. We need to help the children and pregnant mothers improve their quality of life and lifespan through such an easy method of 2 tablets per year.

Here is my comment from their podcast page: I’ve never heard of Vitamin Angels before, and I am totally amazed at what I’ve read here. My kids complain about taking vitamins every day, and I have never had anything to say back to them besides they need to be taking them because vitamins are good for them. I wasn’t sure I totally believed it, but I know it’s my job to make them take vitamins so I do it. It’s totally mind boggling to think that the same vitamins my kids gripe about taking could save somebody else’s life!

I left the following comment on the podcast site (Geoff K): Hearing of the effects of malnutrition and lack of access to vitamins in so many places in the world is simply heartbreaking – but is is heartening to hear of the good work done by people like Howard to reach those children who are most in need to ensure them a chance to not only survive but reach their fullest potential. Thanks for supporting this cause, Whole Foods!

I had no idea about Vitamin A helping prevent blindness. That is amazing. I wonder if it also helps someone who is legally blind not go totally blind, as my husband suffers from this.
