I need your help. Well, more so your opinion than your help.
I’ve already started to plan my holiday shopping list. I’ve written down the names of people I’ll be shopping for as well as any gift ideas that I already have. My daughter for example gave us her “wish list” two months ago. LOL!
There are some people on my shopping list that are impossible to buy for. I never know what to get them. Take for example my grandfather. I often end up sending him a fruit or cheese basket because I never know what to get him. This year I want to do something different. I thought maybe a personalized photo gift with all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s names and/or photos on it. I just don’t know what would work best. He has five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. So there will be 7 names and/or photos.
I really like personalized calendars. I’ve actually made one for myself a few times over the years with photos of my children and my family. I was thinking maybe “highlight” one child per month (the month of their birthday) with just a photo of that child. The the remainder of the months I can use either pictures of all the kids together, or pictures with him and the children. Does this sound like a great gift idea?
There are other personalized ideas that I had in mind such as a photo book of the entire family or a piece of canvas wall art with all the grandchildren on it.
He won’t wear a tee shirt and he has more mugs then one person could possibly ever use.
Are there any other personalized and/or photo gifts available that you think would be great for a grandfather? I would very much love to hear your thoughts and opinions.
If you have any other great gift ideas please feel free to comment on them as well. My grandfather is 85 years old, he loves baseball and he served in the Navy during WWII. He doesn’t have much money. I was thinking maybe some gift cards to places he frequents, like the grocery store, the place where he gets his hair cut, the place where he gets his car washed and his favorite bagel shop/deli.
I always have a hard time buying gifts for men. Is that just me or do others feel the same way? I guess only a man wouldn’t have a hard time buying a gift for another man since they know what they like. I sometimes have a hard time buying for my husband and I know what he likes.
I feel like a lot of times I end up getting cliche gifts for the men in my life like cologne, car stuff or sports stuff. My husband is a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys but I think he owns everything you possibly could that is related to the Cowboys (autographs, jerseys, hats, socks, slippers, pants, gloves, collectibles, books, DVDs…). Now I’m running out of things to get him too.
I know, I’m rambling. I know that Christmas SEEMS like it’s a long way off… but it’s not. It’s two months away! It’s a little more than 8 weeks away! Yikes!!!!

I know what you mean; my dad is 90 and I try to think of things that are useful and won’t just get put in the corner of their family room where all of the other presents people buy him and my mom go that they don’t use (even stuff they need but they don’t think they do). I know you said he had lots of mugs, but maybe you could get a photo mug of the kids and fill it with the gift cards you mentioned. This would be personalized yet useful.
