I love candles. I would happily burn candles all day, every day. Not only do I find their flicking flames relaxing, I also find candle scents to be intoxicating. I can’t get enough of them, most especially scents that remind me of autumn. There are only two problems… our cats (for that reason I burn candles mostly in the kitchen, or when I can watch them the entire time) and my husband. My husband likes the look of candles too, but he suffers from migraines, and his migraines are frequently triggered by scents. Not all scents, but many.
When I purchase candles I need to do the “hubby test.” I need to burn the candle while he’s home to see if it triggers a migraine (I keep his migraine medicine handy just in case). If a candle bothers him, I know I can only burn it when he’s not home. If the candle doesn’t trigger his migraine, then I know I can enjoy the fragrant candle any time.
I don’t “need” to have a scented candle. I just happen to like scents. I am perfectly okay with candles that don’t have a scent. As I mentioned earlier, just the look of the flame dancing around is enough to make me happy.
In addition to migraines, some people have allergies that are triggered by candles too. That is the exactly what happened to Melinda Kilchoer, an advocate of an organic lifestyle to help our environment. She enjoyed burning candles, but she was plagued with allergies most of her life. BeAmbiance Candles was kind enough to send me a candle to try out with my husband, to see if it triggered his migraines.
I was able to choose one of the candles from the brand’s website. That was easier said than done, because I love several of the beautiful quotes found on the candles. They are all so lovely.
I ended up choosing the one that reads;
You are my best friend, my love, my everything in this world.
I thought this quote was fitting because at the time I received the candle to review, my husband and I were celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary. My husband is my best friend, my love and my everything.
The candle came nicely packaged in a cylinder tube. It not only protects the candle, but it also makes it easier to give as a gift. Personally, I am horrible when it comes to wrapping any gift that is not a perfect rectangle shape. However, I could easily wrap this tube. I can see this wrapped with a nice bow on top. That would look great under the Christmas tree.

The candle was much larger than I expected, so that was a pleasant surprise. The text is also perfect, as you can see in my photo.
The candle is not as dark in color as it is in my photo (the lighting is horrible in my home). It has a lighter color in person, more like the color of a rich honey.
I really hated to burn this candle, because I love how it looked. But for the sake of the review, I gave in an burned it. I wanted to see how my husband reacted to it.
SUCCESS! My husband didn’t have any migraines while I was burning this candle. In fact, he didn’t even realize I had a candle burning until he went into the kitchen to get a glass of water.
I intentionally kept the candle in the kitchen to see if he smelled it. Sometimes when he sees candles he automatically assumes he’ll get a migraine (especially if he’s never seen me burn it before). So I did a “blind test,” of sorts and lit the candle without him knowing about it.
After I knew it was okay to burn around him, I started burning it in the living room. I only burn it a few hours at a time seeing as how I get home from work late, and we make sure it’s out before going to bed.
I honestly don’t smell it either. I know it’s suppose to have a subtle, honey scent. I am also dealing with allergies myself, so I have been stuffy 24/7, so I am sure that has a lot to do with it (how I can develop allergies at my age, I’ll never know).
These candles are beautiful and would make a great gift this holiday season, or any time of the year. These would be great to give as a hostess gift, a gift for a neighbor, a best friend, a co-worker and more.
