When I first heard about Disney creating a film based on the evil, wicked character Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, I thought that was very odd. She’s certainly not a likeable character. After all it was Maleficent who put the curse on Aurora (aka “Sleeping Beauty”) and turned herself into a fire breathing dragon to kill Prince Phillip.
I have to admit that as a child I thought the fight scene between Maleficent and Prince Phillip was pretty cool. 🙂
I’m curious to know why Disney chose to make a film based on Maleficent.
From Disney comes Maleficent —the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty.
A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.
The film stars Angelina Jolie as Maleficent, Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville.
Maleficent is produced by Joe Roth and directed by Robert Stromberg, with Angelina Jolie, Don Hahn, Matt Smith, Palak Patel and Sarah Bradshaw serving as executive producers. Linda Woolverton wrote the screenplay. Maleficent opens in theaters on May 30, 2014.
I am curious to see how this film ends. I wonder if they are going to let her remain evil, or will she become good in the end?
Check out the film’s trailer.
Looks good, doesn’t it? I think the film makers did a great job casting Angelina Jolie as the part of Maleficent.
Did you know that her youngest daughter, Vivienne, plays the role of young Aurora?
If you would like to keep up to date on the film you can follow it on the various social media sites, as well as the official movie website, www.Disney.com/Maleficent.

I think Angelina Jolie will be great in this role. She is great in playing the evil parts. I think it looks a little dark.

I have all of Angelina Jolie’s movie’s on DVD (even the ones people didn’t like) so you know I’ll watch this just for her. I know I’ll enjoy Viv’s performance too. Thanks for the preview.

It’s interesting that Angelina Jolie allowed her children to get involved with the movie.

I knew Angelina and her daughter were in this movie, but didn’t know that Dakota Fannings sister was in it. I think Angelina is a brilliant actress and am intrigued to find out more about this movie. Can’t wait for more clips to be released.

evidently i never saw sleeping beauty as a child because i dont remember half of what the story was about (like the fight with the prince). this one looks a little scary for the kids to me, but might be ok for the older ones.

I sure didnt know there was a fight for the prince nor what the witch’s name was. I am not sure it was eve mentioned in the book. I am not so sure about movies like this, I like the books better normally. Its a pity this wasnt in book form first.

I already knew that I really want to see this movie but the trailer only cemented that for me. Wow! I’d personally love for Maleficent to stay evil but knowing how these big movies work, I think that they are going to add layers to her and make her one of those tortured villains who do bad things but have some tragic back story as the motivation and in the end, she will soften.

This is only the second time I’ve seen anything about the movie. I do love Angelina Jolie, but I’m not sure that I’ll like this movie.
