Have you heard about the Lay’s “Do Us A Flavor” contest? It’s a popular contest where people like you and me can submit our own unique potato chip flavor.
I love some of the flavors that the Lay’s brand has for their chips. Have you tried their Dill Pickle, Honey Barbecue or Roasted Garlic and Sea Salt chips? If not you are missing out on some fabulous flavors (I am in love with the Garlic and Sea Salt chips).
The Lay’s brand would love to know what other flavor combinations can be used in their chips. That is where you come in. The Lay’s brand wants to hear from you and they are asking people to submit their flavors to the Lay’s “Do Us A Flavor” contest site – www.DoUsAFlavor.com.
This year the contest has a new “twist.” Lay’s is asking their fans who submit flavor ideas to also include their city/state that inspired each potential flavor.
Later on in the year four final flavors, which represent “flavorful” cities and towns across the country, will be developed and brought to store shelves across the country. The flavors will be voted on by consumers.
The grand prize winner will win a $1 MILLION dollars! Yes, you read that right – ONE MILLION DOLLARS!
So put your thinking caps on and submit your flavor idea to Lay’s DoUsAFlavor.com. You can also enter via Twitter (visit @Lays for details), Lay’s Facebook Page or by texting FLAVOR to CHIPS (24477).
In order to submit your recipe you’ll need to provide your full name, your flavor name, up to three ingredients, the chip style and the city/state that inspired your submission. In addition you’ll be asked for a brief description or the inspiration behind your flavor.
Complete details and official rules are available on the DoUsAFlavor.com website.
I should forewarn you some of the submitted flavors sound SO GOOD! I wish most of them could be turned into chip flavors.
I came up with a flavor idea that I am going to submit – Chocolate Covered Strawberry Wavy Chips.
I’ve always loved strawberries. When I was a young girl growing up in upstate, New York my great-grandparents lived next door. My great-grandfather grew strawberries. The bushes were all around his house. He didn’t grow them in the garden. Instead he used them as tiny decorative bushes around his home. He encouraged the grandchildren to enjoy the sweet, luscious berries whenever we wanted them.
Strawberries always bring back sweet memories of my childhood and my great-grandparents.
I enjoy strawberries fresh off the bush. I also love them in salads (spinach and feta cheese salad with fresh strawberries and balsamic vinegar – YUMMY!).
One of my favorite ways to enjoy strawberries is when they are combined with chocolate. They can either be dipped in chocolate or simply have chocolate drizzled on top of them.
I like the idea of using the Lay’s Wavy chips instead of regular chips because I think the texture would go nicely with the strawberry and chocolate.
In a way the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Wavy Chips that I created could serve as both a snack and a dessert.
What do you think about my Chocolate Covered Strawberry Wavy Chips idea? If you saw them on the store shelf would you give them a try?
What kind of chip flavors can you think of? Do you plan on entering the Lay’s “Do Us A Flavor” contest? If you do, and your chip is selected let me know. I will keep an eye out for it and buy it when I see it on the store shelf.

I lack total imagination for this, I did see a new flavor at the store the other day I want to try the wasabi ginger.
