The holiday season is officially OVER. The only thing left to do is to take down the decorations (if you haven’t done so already) and get ready to get back into the swing of things with work and school.
For many people the end of the holiday season it time to de-stress and unwind. No more worries about family dinners, holiday parities, out of town guests, marathon shopping sprees, road rage at the mall and wrapping gifts at 3:00 AM.
When you are dealing with a headache, sore muscles, or just need to relax and unwind, a hot or cold pack can do the trick.
We have a few ice packs in the freezer, but they are not exactly ideal for applying to your skin. They are hard as a rock and not very pliable so you are unable to bend them to suit your needs.
As far as a heat pack or heating pad, we don’t have one. For years we’ve been using an old sock filled with rice. It pretty primitive, but it serves it’s purpose OK.
I have been meaning to get a real heat pad, I just never go around to it. Lucky for me I was sent some hot/cold packs from a company called Flax Relax to review.
Flax Relax sent me a small eye pillow and a larger body wrap.
What first stood out to me about the warps are how pretty they were and how well they were made. They look like pillows and they are soft and comfortable like pillows, except they are not filled with fluffy stuffing. They are filled with flaxseed and other ingredients (more on that later).
Each Flax Relax pillow/wrap comes in your choice of fabric. They are pretty and colorful fabrics too.
Flax Relax can be put in the microwave and warmed up or tossed in the freezer to cool down (I put my eye pillow in a freezer bag and the body wrap wrapped up in a towel to keep them clean in the freezer.
Heat is good for stress, muscle tension and body aches. Cold is good for bruises, strains, sprains, bumps and inflammation.
When I was younger I would sprain my ankles A LOT. My mom had me put my foot in the toilet bowl because the water was so cold. I had to stand there with one foot in the toilet and one foot on the floor. Back then I didn’t think about things like E-coli. Looking back on it now – eeewwwww! What was my mom thinking?
My husband is prone to migraines and I get frequent earaches. I also get mouth pain due to my sinuses. Having a heated pillow/wrap to rest on my face is a lot nicer than a sock.
Flax Relax pillows and wraps are filled with flaxseed, which has the ability to hold heat and cold for a long period of time. They are also filled with Wheat Berries which help add some weight to them. The weight can also help by applying pressure to acupressure points.
In addition the wraps/pillows are made with Lavender. Lavender is used in aromatherapy to help you feel relaxed and relieve tension. Some people use Lavender to help them fall asleep too. The Lavender makes the Flax Relax pillows/wraps smell so good!
I like how the pillow and wrap mold to the contours of your face and body. You can wrap the Flax Relax wrap around your neck or lower back. You can even wrap I around your shoulder or knee.
The eye pillow is perfect to rest on your forehead. I also use I to wrap around my wrist when my Carpal Tunnel flares up.
They remind me of bean bags in a way.
I have tried them both heated and chilled. They do hold the heat a lot longer than the rice sock we’ve been using. I like not having to microwave the wrap every few minutes just to keep it heated. The heat stays inside for a decent amount of time.
I like using the Flax Relax chilled MUCH MORE than using an ice pack. Ice packs are hard and FROZEN. The Flax Relax gets very cold, but not frozen, so it doesn’t hurt to apply it to your skin.
My daughter gets really bad menstrual cramps. The body wrap is the perfect size for her to lie across her lower abdomen area to help relieve the cramps. She lies on her bad and places the heated Flax Relax body wrap on top.
My husband has used the eye pillow a few time for her migraines and I have used it to help with my earaches and to help relive my sinuses that bother my mouth.
After a stressful holiday season getting a little relief with Flax Relax is ideal.
For the record I have since tossed out our rice sock. 🙂
The Flax Relax body wrap sells for $26.00 and the eye pillow for $14.00. They can both be purchased on the Flax Relax website, www.FlaxRelax.com. You can also check out their Etsy shop.
They also make great gifts.
* I don’t have photos of my wrap and pillow because my camera is broken and all I have is my cellphone for pictures which turn out horrible.

I have a couple of bags that are similar to these. I love what I have but I think this one in the body wrap size would be great. What I have is a much smaller size and with bigger seeds. I really like that the flaz seeds are so much smaller.

I love these, such a great idea. I’d love to have a couple in each size. Thank you for this review.

I definitely needed something for my back last week! I was sore and I couldn’t figure out why. Thankfully the soreness is gone now. Thanks for the review.
