This time of year many people find themselves looking towards those less fortunate then themselves. It’s hard to pass by a donation center to give toys to children in need and just ignore it. The same applies to a non-perishable food donation box at the grocery store. After all, this is the season of love and good will towards others. Sadly many people forget about those in need after the holiday season is over. I know people don’t think about it because they don’t care. I know that the hustle and bustle of life often makes you forget about things unintentionally.
All over the globe there are people who struggle day to day just to fulfill their basic needs in life. For some, even a glass of clean water is unattainable, let alone food for their tummies. In many parts of the world education is also something that is out of their reach. We all know that a good education can “open doors” to decent paying jobs and a better life.
If you are still in need of some last minute gifts, or perhaps you feel like treating yourself because you’ve been especially good this year, please consider making a purchase from the World Vision’s Gift Catalog. When you purchase a gift from the catalog most of the funds go to the World Vision Gift Catalog Maximum Impact Fund. The funds are then used where resources are most desperately needed, to help children and families in struggling communities around the world.
With a financial contribution, the gift giver (you, the consumer) can select one of 36 Maximum Impact items that can be given to a loved one and at the same time help a person in need. You can also keep the gift for yourself.
Here are just a few of the gifts available.
Artisan Beaded Necklace: This glass-bead necklace is handmade in Thailand and can be worn several different ways — even as a multi-strand bracelet.
Eco Cold Cup: This popular 16 oz. BPA-free tumbler comes in handy when on the run. Every sip is a reminder of those who’ve been helped.
Veggie Tales “Incredible Vegetables” DVD: Heroic adventures and veggie fun for the family movie night! This newest Veggie Tale DVD is an action adventure that teaches kids how to conquer fear through a faith-based message.
Gertie Goat, Chuma Chick and Pallu Pig Plush Toys: Gertie, Chuma and Pallu are available exclusively through World Vision and represent farm animals that are donated to children and families around the world and provide a steady supply of nutritious food and the surplus can be sold for extra income.
I have the plush animals and I must say they are SO CUTE!!!
The plush are so much cuter in person. The photo doesn’t do them justice. I just love the Pallu Pig. Of course the Chick and Goat are just as cute.
Imagine the smile on a child’s face if they were given these cuddly, snugly friends to play with? It makes it even that much nicer knowing that most of the funds from the purchase of these little critters is going towards helping those in need from around the world.
Although the plus animals are darling, they are much smaller then they appear. They are about the size of my hand. But that is OK. They are still a perfect size for small hands and for playing with.
On the World Vision website you’ll find even more gift ideas. The gifts are also broken down by price range and categories.
You can also buy gifts with meaning. Instead of buying something you can wrap up in a bright, shiny bow you can buy gifts to help others. For example, you can $300 worth of school supplies for only $25.00. Or for $48 you can feed a family right here in the United States for three days. For $25 you can buy two chickens for families in need. The chickens will provide them with food and perhaps even extra eggs they can sell to earn money for their family. There are dozens of gift ideas.
Of course if you want to donate to help others and receive an actual gift you can give to a family member or friend, make sure to check out the “Maximum Impact” section.
