My family and I don’t eat out at restaurants often. I tend to make our family dinners. When we do go out to eat its a big deal. I think it makes up appreciate going out MORE because we don’t do it all the time.
It’s not often my family goes out to eat is even more rare for me and my husband to go out to eat – just the two of us. Each time we do get to have our own time, without our kids, I realize more and more that it’s important for us to take time out for just the two of us, whether it’s going to the movies or out to eat. I value “couple time”.
Last week we went out to our local Outback Steakhouse to check out their Happy Hour menu and their new meals made out of Moonshine. That’s right – Moonshine! I was really curious to see how they tasted. When I think moonshine I think hard core liquor. Thankfully the cooking process burns off the alcohol.
We ALWAYS get a Bloomin’ Onion when we go to Outback. It’s impossible to eat there without enjoying one. They are so good!
You’ll have to excuse my photos. I didn’t have my regular camera, only my cellphone. The restaurant is a bit dark.
We also enjoyed a garden salad with our Bloomin’ Onion appetizer. Mmm… the salad was so good! It was a decent size and all the ingredients were fresh and crisp. I recommend the Balsamic dressing. It has a bit of a kick to it.
I was excited to check out the Moonshine menu. It as really hard to narrow down our choices.
I really wanted to get the Moonshine BBQ Combo Platter with chicken, bacon wrapped shrimp and babyback ribs. I really wanted this menu item but I don’t like to eat ribs in public because they can be really messy.
The manager, Parker, recommended the Wood Fire Wings cooked with Moonshine BBQ Sauce. I don’t like wings because they are also messy and I hate trying to eat around the bone. At the end of our meal when Parker came out to speak with us again he told us that we could have ordered boneless wings with the Moonshine BBQ Sauce. We’ll have to go back again and do that.
I ended up ordering the 5 ounce sirloin cooked in the Moonshine BBQ Sauce and the bacon wrapped shrimp. Normally I’d get a baked sweet potato as my side but I was in the mood for French fries for some odd reason.
The bacon wrapped shrimp were SO GOOD! I tasted the bacon and Moonshine sauce more so than the shrimp, which was fine with me. I could have made a whole meal out of just those.
My sirloin steak was cooked to perfection. I ordered it medium well done and it practically melted in my mouth.
The Moonshine Sauce has a bit of a kick to it. It’s spicy but not overly spicy. It’s very flavorful too. It puts other barbecue sauces to shame. LOL!
My husband opted for the double decker burger made with the Mooshine BBQ Sauce. I wanted to try this too but sometimes hamburgers don’t sit well in my tummy (any burger). I couldn’t imagine eating a double burger.
My husband can usually inhale burgers with no problem – and want more. He found this burger to be very filling (especially because it was a double burger). He was so full that he didn’t want dessert.
Also on the Moonshine menu;
- Moonshine BBQ Ribs
- Moonshine BBQ Chopped Salad
- Moonshine BBQ Wood-Fire Grilled Wings
There is even a Moonshine beverage menu. We didn’t try anything from that menu because my hubby has never had a drink in his life and I cannot drink due to medication I am currently taking.
The three Moonshine beverages include Huckleberry Hooch and Watermelon Hunch Punch, made with Ole Smoky® Blackberry Moonshine™ and Just Peachee made with Georgia Moon® Peach Moonshine.
There is even a special dessert on this menu – Skillet Apple Pie, made with warm apples and cinnamon baked in a flakey crust, topped with Blue Bell® Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream. I wanted to try this but my tummy was way too full to eat another bite after I was done with my dinner.
The Moonshine Sauce really adds a lot of flavor to your meal. I am looking forward to going back and trying the wings and maybe even brave the burger. 🙂
We went during the week when Happy Hour was going on. The Outback Steakhouse has a great Happy Hour menu worth checking out.
Many items on the menu are only $4 including snacks and beverages.
We went on a Tuesday evening and there were plenty of people at the restaurant – almost as many you’d find on the weekend. Chances are they were taking advantage of the Outback’s Happy Hour and special menu options for only $4.00.
I would LOVE to try the Crab-Stuffed Mushrooms and Bloom Petals.
I’m not sure how long the Moonshine menu will be around. If you are interested in trying it out visit an Outback Steakhouse near you.

YIKES!!! $5 for a bottle of hard cider? On average, that adds $20 to your tab if you have 2 drinks apiece.
I’d go with water & lemon instead and spend the $20 on an entire case of Hard cider, with change leftover to play a few instant win scratch cards.

The Bacon Wrapped Shrimp does look really good and I’m pretty sure I would like the homemade chips with jalapeno ranch dipping sauce too.

I haven’t been to Outback in quite a while. Based on your review, the pics and the great happy hour menu I think that a stop to Outback is in our future.
