Some people might think that HOP is strictly an Easter movie. Even though it does revolve around Easter, I think this movie is fun to watch year round.
HOP is about how the Easter Bunny’s son, E.B., goes against his destiny to become the next Easter Bunny and tries to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a drummer.
E.B. (voiced by Russell Brand) is a typical young adult. He thinks he knows it all and he’s out to prove is father wrong. All his life he was being groomed to take over the family business of being the Easter Bunny and delivering goodies to boys and girls around the globe. E.B. doesn’t feel that he’s the right person for the job. Instead he rather play the drums. His father sees the drums as a hobby, but E.B. feels it’s his destiny to be a drummer.
To prove his father wrong and to show him that he can make it as a drummer, E.B. runs away from home. He leaves Easter Island where the Easter candy factory is located and heads off to Hollywood to become a star.
Fred’s sister Sam (Kaley Cuoco) offers him the opportunity to house sit a mansion for her. She also sets him up for a job interview with a video game company, something that sound promising for Fred.
On his way to house sit Fred accidentally runs into E.B. – literally. He hits E.B. with his car (but he is unhurt). When Fred finds out that E.B. can talk he is freaked out and leaves him in the road. E.B. does not see that Fred is frightened of him, a talking rabbit. Instead he feels that the least Fred could do is let him spend the night.
Even though they started off on the “wrong foot”, Fred and E.B. eventually become friends. Fred even tries to help E.B. achieve his life’s goal of becoming a famous drummer.
There are a lot of ups and down along the way, including a take over of the candy factory by a tough chick name Carlos.
Will Fred ever find a job he is passionate about? Will E.B. give into his destiny of being the Easter Bunny, or will he become a famous drummer after all? Does Carlos succeed in taking over the candy factory? You’ll just have to pickup a copy of HOP, now available on Blu-ray and DVD where ever movies are sold.
I thought it was a cute movie. I love the chicks at the candy factory. Especially the chick who loves to dance.
The movie was slow in a few spots but it made up for it with cuteness. 🙂
The candy factory is AMAZING! I wish such a place existed. The animators did a fantastic job of creating the secret world of the Easter Bunny. I also love the factory and how they the candy was made.
Instead of doing a regular movie review where me and my family watch a movie and I do a review, we had a HOP viewing party. My kids were off from school on Monday (Superintendent’s meeting). I figured it was a good time to invite a few friends over and have the kids watch the movie together. I watched it off and on while they did. I also watched it Monday evening with my husband so that I could catch the parts I missed while playing host.
I had both boys and girls here, ranging in age from 12-16. Hop is a movie that is fun for all ages, including hard to please teenagers. Ha Ha. I was concerned about having a home full of teens. I was afraid I’d be so frazzled afterwards that I would need to see PCH Treatment. LOL!
I picked up the usual things for ‘tweens and teens including soda, juice and water. I also picked up chips and a lot of other yummy goodies.
Since this movie has an Easter theme, and it’s almost Easter, I made sure to get the kids plenty of Easter goodies.
Behind the jelly beans are individually wrapped chocolate bunnies.
I also used some plastic eggs filled with treats as both decorations and treats for the kids. However they had more fun tossing them around and our dog had fun chewing on one of them. Ugh!
I even found a cute carrot shaped bag of orange jelly beans.
It never ceases to amaze me how much teens can eat. LOL!
The kids all enjoyed the movie. I poked my head into the living room from time to time to see what they were up to. They all genuinely watched the movie. I heard laughter and giggles and a few “awww’s” from the girls (I”m guessing they did that when they saw the cute little critters). I
I was actually rather shocked at how well behaved everyone was. I even commented about it on my blog’s Facebook page. I was worried that having a bunch of teens over would have been stressful. It wasn’t. I also helps that I knew most of their moms. LOL!
FYI… I didn’t take the kid’s pictures. Most of the mom’s are against having their child’s faces on the Internet. I respect their decision.
After the movie was over the kids played with balloons that I had hoped to use as decorations but our cats had other plans (ha ha). Thew blew them up and let the air out slowly so it made a high pitched whistle (the dog was not happy about that).
The kids also played the games found on the Blu-ray. I asked them to check out some of the bonus features and that is when we discovered the games. Off hand the only game I recall had something to do with a board game.
I think everyone had a great time. I even sent them home with some party favors. After all, what is party without favors?
I gave the kids the favors before they watched the movie. Some of the kids wore the ears during the movie. I know it was a bit “juvenile” for ‘tweens and teens but they actually enjoyed them. After all, they are still kids even if they don’t want to admit to it.
It was fun to incorporate Easter goodies and decorations into a HOP viewing party. If you are planning on picking up the movie I’m sure you could do something similar in your home. Have fun with it. It’s a fun movie so why not have a fun viewing party too.
