Living on a tight budget means that I don’t always have the funds to pay for high price beauty products or procedures. I have never stepped foot inside a spa before (one day I’d love to!). That doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy spa-quality products and beauty treatments.
I enjoy learning how to create my own “budget friendly” beauty products. I even have a whole board on Pinterest just for DIY beauty ideas. You can check it out here.
There is one product on the market that is inexpensive and can be used in numerous ways. It’s Epsom Salt.
Epsom Salt has been around for ages. Most people think of Epsom Salt as something you pour in your bath and soak in. Epsom Salt actually has numerous uses, from beauty treatments to helping your plants grow in the garden.
A few years ago I wrote a post with several uses for Epsom Salts. Here is a link to the post in case you want to check it out.
Inexpensive Stocking Stuffer With Many Uses
Please disregard the fluctuations in the text in that post. It was written years ago and when I transferred to WordPress some of my older posts got a bit messed up for some odd reason.
Here are a few great uses for Epsom Salt that you might want to try out for yourself.
Glowing skin exfoliating treatment:
Mix 2 cups of Epsom Salt with 1/4 cup of petroleum jelly and a few drops of lavender essential oil. Use the mixture to gently scrub away dry skin patches.
Microdermabrasion Facial:
Mix 1/2 TSP of Epsom Salt into cleansing cream for a deep-pore cleansing. Massage on skin, rinse with cool water and pat dry.
Pedicure Perfection:
Dissolve a half cup of Epsom Salt into two quarts of warm water. Pour the water into a container and soak your bare feet for 15 to 20 minutes. For an extra treat, add a few drops of eucalyptus oil for a refreshing scent. Massage the entire foot with Epsom Salt, concentrating on the heels and ankles to remove any dry, rough spots. Then rinse your feet with clean tap water and dry them thoroughly.
Bathtime bliss:
Add two cups of Epsom Salt to the water in a standard-sized bathtub and soak for at least 12 minutes. For an extra treat, add a few drops of eucalyptus oil for a refreshing scent.
Peppermint oil also works well. It’s refreshing and invigoration like Eucalyptus oil.
If you do a search on Pinterest for Epsom Salt you’ll find a lot of uses for Epsom Salt. You can even use it in crafts. My favorite idea was filling glass candle holders with some Epsom Salt to make it appear like they are filled with glistening snow. I’ll have to try that during the holiday season.
You can also Google Epsom Salt for more ideas or you can visit www.EpsomSaltCouncil.org. The Epsom Salt Council website has many great recipes, tips, and craft ideas – all of which use Epsom Salt. You should check out the website when you have a chance. They have a cute idea for making snowballs and a recipe for a hair volumizer.
You can even check out Epsom Salt on Facebook. Even on the Facebook page you can find a lot of great tips and ideas.
Do you have a favorite use for Epsom Salt? If so, please feel free to leave a comment and tell me about it.

My grandmother used to always have Epsom Salts on hand. She would use is for various things around the house. She too would use it for a scrub! I think some of the old ways are best, esp when they are saving me money!
