The holidays are approaching at lightening speed. Even though pumpkins and gobblins might still be on top of most people’s minds, any day now your thoughts are going to turn to turkey, stuffing and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.
I love attending (and hosting) formal dinner parties for family and friends. Don’t get me wrong, a backyard barbecue or ordering a few pizzas is just as great. But every now and then it’s fun to be a bit more formal.
When it comes to your holiday table I’m sure you want the offer your guests that best you can – the best China, the best glasses, the best serving pieces and so forth.
There is one accessory that your dinner table might need that is not high on people’s priority list (but should be) – the salad tong. Poor salad tong. No one gives much thought to it.
I have been to parties where you serve yourself salad using a giant plastic spoon and fork (not very fancy) to simply stabbing pieces of lettuce with your fork (not sanitary). I have to admit I’ve seen people use their own hands to get their salad too. Ewww!!!
We have a metal salad tong, but it’s annoying. It doesn’t close and it takes up a lot of room in the drawer. I have to keep a rubber band around the opened end just so I can get it to fit in the drawer.
I was sent to review a really nice salad tong from a company called Kentucky Made and More. You wouldn’t think a salad tong would be that exciting, but I’m actually very impressed by the one I received.
The salad tong was designed and crafted right here in the United States. I am all for supporting USA made products. It was designed by Kentucky artist Kyle Ellison.
The tong is made from reclaimed domestic wood and is available in Sugar Maple, Wild Cherry and Black Walnut. Because they are made of reclaimed wood it makes them 100% Earth friendly.
What I really like about these tongs, aside from the fact they are USA made and Earth friendly is that it looks really nice. You can use these to serve salad at a picnic or serve rolls at a fancy dinner party. They can go from casual to classy.
I love the unique design of the tong too. When it’s not in use it automatically lies flat and barely takes up any room in the drawer. They are thin enough to slip along side the rest of your flatware and don’t take up much space. That means I can toss out my bulky metal tongs that need a rubber band to keep them closed.
When you want to use the tong simply flip the pieces around and when you are done flip them back the other way. To better explain what I mean check out this brief video.
They are so easy to flip around that you can do it with one hand.
These are not only salad tongs. As I mentioned before you can use them to serve rolls or breads, pasta, vegetables and a variety of other things.
Because these are made of wood you have to take care of them. You cannot put them in the dishwasher. To clean simply wash with soap and water. Also it is best that you don’t use them in hot water because the hot water can warp them.
If you apply a food safe oil these should last you for many years.
If you are looking for a great gift for the holiday season these tongs would be great for a foodie, new married couple, house warming gift and a hostess gift. I especially like the idea of gifting a set to a hostess. They only cost $16.00 which makes them practical AND affordable. They look like they would have cost a lot more too. Shhh… no one needs to know how much you really paid for them. 🙂

These are very nice, and using them would add pizazz to serving rolls, bars, salad, many items. It would be fun to give the story of how they are made. Very attractive and special.
