Expecting a baby is an exciting time for everyone – whether it’s your first child or the pending birth of your second, third or fourth child.
I remember when I was pregnant with my oldest (she just turned 17). I was the typical first time parent. I read every book possible, I watched all the TV shows, took advice given by others to heart. My whole pregnancy was “textbook”.
We didn’t know if we were having a girl or a boy. When it came to designing the nursery we wanted to keep it “gender neutral” just to be on the safe side. We opted for a Disney theme with focus on Winnie the Pooh and Dumbo.
I have big dreams for the nursery. I even wanted to have a mural or two painted on the wall. Sadly we never got around to doing that. I guess that is for the better because our son arrived 2+ years later. For a while they had to share the bedroom. I didn’t want it to look too “girly” for our son.
When it came to our son I really wish I was able to design a nursery for him. I had visions of bright, primary colors with a car/truck theme.
I think for many parents designing the perfect nursery is a priority. You want to make sure everything is perfect for your little one right down to the mattress cover and the artwork on the walls.
If you are expecting, or you already delivered your bundle of joy, you might be interested in checking out a special in-store event Babies R Us is hosting this coming weekend.
On Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 12:00 noon – 1:00 PM at Babies R Us stores across the country there will be a Happy Places event. Its a great opportunity for parents to meet with and talk to local designers about creating their dream nursery for your baby, or even your toddler. The toddler/playroom event takes place from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM.
Attendees will also get to check out six room vignettes designed by a Disney Designer and peruse a palette of paint colors provided by Home Depot. The vignettes and color palettes were created to help inspire design ideas for your child’s nurser or room.
In addition Babies R Us will be giving away great prizes throughout the event.
It sounds like fun! I wish we had a baby’s room to design. My “baby” will be turning 15 years old in a few months. I’m pretty sure he won’t be up for a Disney or other child/baby themed room. 🙂

We also had a girl first, did not find out the gender until she was born, and decorated with Winnie the Pooh. We also had a little guy just 19 months later.
Todays nurseries have so many options. I’d have loved to have a soft and comfy swivel rocker in the babies room. I cannot believe all the adorable bedding that is available to start the room decor. But then, I think the classiest ones and most beauftiful are the ones that are simple and not overdone.
