Now available on DVD is the horror, supernatural thriller Cassadaga.
Did you know that there is such a place as Cassadaga? It’s also known as the “Psychic Capital of the World”. It’s located in Florida.
Cassadaga is the story of a young deaf art teacher/student name Lily. She cares for her younger sister Michele after their mother passed away. Lily and Michele plan on moving to France after Michele graduates from high school.
After Michele is struck and killed by a car, Lily flees to find solace in the home of a kind lady just outside of Cassadaga, Florida. The elderly woman lives there with her son who tends to keep to himself and watch violent porn all day long.
Lily quickly makes a new friend – a man name Mike and his young daughter who took one of Lily’s art workshops. Lily and Mike quickly become an “item”.
One evening while out with friends the group thought it would be fun to have a séance with a well known medium in town (Cassadaga). When the group learns that it will be $500 to hold the séance they change their minds. Not Lily. She saw this as a way to communicate with her young sister who was the only family she had left at the time she was killed.
Lily does get to communicate with Michele, even hearing her own voice (Lily is deaf). But that wonderful moment is quickly taken over by an evil entity who also tries to communicate with Lily. The séance is quickly stopped, but not until after an evil spirit latches on to Lily.
Since the séance Lily keeps having horrible nightmares and seeing things. She learns that it’s a spirit that came out during the séance. The spirit is trying to get Lily to do something for her.
With Mike’s help Lily learns that the spirit is that of a woman who was kidnapped and possibly murdered a few years earlier. Now it’s up to Lily to unlock the secret the spirit is trying to convey to her and stop the sadistic serial killer before he strikes again – or even possibly make Lily his next victim.
Will Lily figure out who the killer is before it’s too late and he claims another victim? To find out you need to pick up a copy of Cassadaga where ever films are sold.
The film starts off in a rather peculiar way with a young boy wearing a dress and playing with puppets. When his mother disapproves and forces him to take off the dress he retaliates by severing off his penis with a pair of scissors. It’s easy to figure out that the little boy ends up being the killer, but it never explains WHY he has a passion for wearing dresses and playing with puppets. I wish the film dug a bit deeper into his background so that the viewer had a better understanding.
The film is slow and often lost my attention. It seemed to bounce around too much where I got totally lost and had no clue what was going on. The only time the film kept my attention was when the serial killer was on screen. He is pretty sick and twisted. He kidnaps women, removes their limbs and replaces them with hinges which he attaches to rope, turning them into human marionettes. That is pretty sick. These sequences were my favorite in the whole film (great special effects).
There were a few other scenes with the spirit of the dead woman that were good too.
The whole story was a great idea, it just failed to keep my attention.
I honestly wanted to love this movie. Especially after seeing the trailer (below). It just didn’t live up to the hype FOR ME. For others this film might be seen as a great film. Remember, this is just MY thoughts/review. Like my mom used to always tell me “one man’s meat is another man’s poison” meaning just because one person loves something doesn’t mean that another person will.
Check out the trailer. Let me know what you think?
Look for Cassadaga where ever movies are sold.
Have you ever been to Cassadaga?

I’ve never heard of this movie. If it’s slow and bounces around, I would be so lost, lol. I’m not good at staring at the screen and often irritate people asking them what happened. I’m no fun. I sort of like funny horror movies, to take the edge off I guess. I’m sure they make those. Keeping posted…

Yes, I’ve been to Cassadaga! It’s about half way between where I live & Disney World. My daughter & I went there last year for my birthday and stayed at the spooky Hotel there. It’s a very unique place, to say the least.
